Spiritually Speaking, what is the deal with egg nog?

...is it for people in the mood to get a little drunk, but also want pancakes?

    If you're only getting a "little" drunk, then you're not using enough the right rum.

    That's one of my favorite Dave Attell jokes.

    I love eggnog, even when it's non-alcoholic...but I also love pancakes. Eggnog pancakes....mmmm. I don't however like the eggnog shake from Jack in the Box. It's just not the same.
