My nephew is in a coma, what do I expect?

My nephew has been in a coma since November 8, 2008 due to a car accident. What can I expect as far as recovery and the stages he will go through? Serious answers only please. Thank you in advance for your help.

Update:

This was not supposed to be in this section. My nephew was being stupid and got drunk and got on his motorcycle. He hit a truck head on and has been in a coma since. He is 22 years old.

Each person is different. You really should ask his doctor. It would depend on why he's in a coma. There could be several reasons. His doctor will give you the best answers.

This depends on how old your nephew was at the time of the accident. Since this is posted in the newborn and baby section, I will guess a newborn or baby. Premature infants are often put into coma's to help their little bodies handle all the treatments needed to sustain life. An infant under the age of a year is more likely to have no long term effects of a coma other then delayed milestones. If there is no other physical damage done, you will have to wait. Is there active brain currents? just make sure that all proper physical therapy procedures are being followed.

I sympathize with you over your nephew's injuries. I certainly hope and pray his coma is temporary and that he will emerge from it soon and that he can return to normal. I just want to let you know that many people do wake up and return to a normal life, depending on the severity of the injuries. I had an uncle who was in a coma from a similar accident for over a year and did indeed wake up from it and return to a normal life. Good luck.

    I am deeply sorry-

Several things might happen- The doctors will determines how much brain activity is going on..The more the better..If no activity-chances are not good.

If the child wakes up- recovery will depend on the support of the family and their positive attitude towards the child. Of course the child will have the ultimate say...Encouragement goes along way.

    I have also seen miracles-

My prayers to you and your family.

I am so sorry. What exactly is he in a coma for? What got so damaged that he was out into a coma? Hope he gets better soon, and we'll pray for him!

Sorry to hear that. Keep on talking to him, I heard that people in comas can hear when people starts to talk to them. Also keep praying.
