can you proove your god exists?

as an atheist i'm interested to know what theist's reasoning behind their belief in god is.

i'm not here to offend anyone so i don't want people saying 'i'll pray for you' or anything patronising like that.

Update:

lots of people are saying they just have 'faith'. where does your faith come from?

well the first thing you have to do is decide what you will accept as proof

and full disclosure: i was previously an agnostic/atheist/whatever and am now a christian.

there are three main arguments for the existence of God or at least a god

if you are really serious about the answers to your questions you'll email me

    the teleological argument

    the cosmological argument

    & the ontological argument

and we can talk about these if you want (add me to you contacts and email me)

however, i really don't think that you'll ever meet a person who is like "yep, it was the ontological one that did it for me so now i'm a christian"

many people's belief in good is predicated on an experience, often an inward one. for me it just started making sense, christianity just seemed to fit the facts and answer reasonably well the questions i had.

really i guess what i'm saying is this question is too big for a yahoo answers post so like i said email me if you feel like it

Well, I can't prove to any one he is real if they don't believe in him, just like others can't prove he doesn't. But for me there are a few reasons I believe in him. One night after a few sleepless nights and other things in the mix I prayed for just sleep, all of a sudden I felt a peace that I have never felt before it was the best feeling in the world! Another time, I was reading the bible and got it in my head God was a chauvinist, I prayed and ranted about it. I went to sleep and at four in the morning I woke up coughing, I couldn't quit so I got up and got some water. I laid back down and started again so I decided well, I guess I will watch tv until it quits. I turned it on and there was a special about the great women that God called. After it was over I fell right to sleep.

The final piece of proof for me any way is when my beloved uncle passed away. He was more like a grandfather. I was distraught and devastated. I awoke the night we buried him and was talking to him! I believe God allowed me to see my uncle one last time; just to let me know that he was ok.

What is it that makes you not believe?

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. --Romans 1:20

Take a look around at creation around you. If you need more evidence than that, then you aren't seeing clearly. (I'm not trying to be insulting, just stating a fact.)

And, on the flip side of the coin, can you prove that He does not exist? Of course not.

Start looking into the wonders all around you. Can you find any humanistic explanation for the creation and workings of it all? None that hold up for long. God does exist. If he didn't, we and the whole world wouldn't either.

People made it up thousands of years ago to explain the things they couldnt understand.. Now that most everything is proven scientifically.. a "God" is based on the fear of death.

And to all these people saying 'look around you'.. I looked around me, I see tragedy 90% of the time. My 1 month old cousin died a few days ago (Her family was extrememly religious).

And to the people who are saying there are no "humanistic qualities" in this world. Hahaha, everything in this world was created by humans. Our technology, homes, food we buy at the grocery store. Everything derived from humans, if you sat there and told me "god" payed my bills I would laugh in your face, cause I'm pretty sure "god" isent slaving over a dead end job hours and hours a week to put food on my table.

    kthnksbai.

The path to proving, once and for all, that God exists, and that he does indeed have a religion.

    1. If there is a religion that is in fact NOT man-made, it would stand to reason that there would only be one. One that knows the truth about it all. One that can literally claim that what they believe is in fact true and every other religion out there is false. There can only be one because the sole purpose of forming another religion is because you believe something different, sometimes only slightly, but still different.

    2. There MUST be a way to verify or prove once and for all that it is in fact the single only religion that encompasses the truth of God. If not, then it would frustrate our ability to learn any amount of truth and leave it to chance.

    3. If 2 people, who know NOTHING of each other, both find the one and true religion, it would stand to reason that they would end up at the same one. I will take it a little further. If 10,000 people who know nothing of each other, all find the one true religion, it would stand to reason that they would all end up in the same one. It does NOT make sense that God would suggest one religion is true for one and direct another person to a different religion whos views do not match.

    4. I am going to reconfirm what I said in #2. There must be a 100% fool-proof way of knowing undeniably and irrefutably that this particular religion is "the one". Not through a book, not from another person, not from some weird coincidence, not by some unforseen miracle, NO OUTSIDE INFLUENCE OR STIMULI OF ANY KIND PERIOD. It should be something so profound and so personal in nature, that you can neither deny it, nor would you ever be able to explain it. But you would know of yourself and by yourself that it is in fact true, nothing doubting. This is known as a Personal Witness.

I can tell you that either this is possible, or your right, there is no God. I can also tell you that finding the person who has experienced this would most likely be a lesson in frustration, as there are very few who would admit that they have truly had this type of a Personal Witness, otherwise these boards would be entirely different in nature.

We are the same in that all we can really do to "prove" to one another is point fingers at situations, books, science, etc in a feeble attempt to show that our belief has some root in solid ground.

The difference between me and you is that I have laid out above a fool-proof way to prove once and for all to yourself, independantly of everything, that there is in fact a God and by the same means, a single religion that is literally lead by God and not a man. A religion that God himself decides the doctrine. A religion where God himself is a part of its daily routine. A religion where God himself reveals wisdom in current situations. A religion that is so true, that should one EVER doubt a new piece of doctrine therein, it can be proven undeniably true or false using the same pattern as explained in #4 above.

Either that is all true, or your right, its all a bunch of manure.

God is life, God is love, God is energy. People mistake God for some great being in the sky. Not so. He is a being who lives in each person's heart and provides us with life, energy and breath. He does this whether or not we believe. For Him to do more in our life, we have to believe more. To answer your question directly, God said that only those who He has called to Him would believe in Him. That is faith, so I guess there is no direct answer, but if I come up with one, I will post it here.

If your looking for facts and evidence I can't give it to you. Christians believe in God through faith which is believing in what you don't see and being certain of what you hope for.

no-one has ever 'proved' 'god' exists

I believe in Nature, the true creator of the universe, still happening

religion is fiction...I dare anyone to prove otherwise

I've been a born again Christian for twenty-seven years now. In that time I've seen too many miracles, and seen too many lives changed for the better to believe it's all been a coincidence.
