Is it possible to buy a car in another state but register it in your home state at the time of purchase?

Do you have to pay taxes in both states when you do that? I'm thinking of buying a car in NY and driving it across the country. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

When you have the title physically in your hand, in your home state, you can register it in your state.

So this scheme works fine - you just need the seller to mail you the title ahead of time.

You would only pay taxes in your home state, or where you are registering the vehicle.

Why would you want to buy a car across country and drive it home?

The only motiviation to do this is if it were a collector car, but if it were, you certainly wouldn't be driving it across country.

    Buy locally.

valuable you are able to, that's complete each of the time. you will get the low value for the state the automobile is in, and you will pay the revenues taxes in that state and could be to blame for taxes in the event that they're greater on your place state.
