Instead of trying to sell them on the internet, have you checked into carving shows? My Dad was a woodcarver, and the guys who sold stuff seemed to do best at regional woodcarving shows. The people who go are more likely to appreciate the workmanship, and pay more. Also, seeing and touching the work in person will help you get a higher price.
Do you live near any resort towns that have upscale gift shops? You might try selling directly through them. Art shows are another possibility. One more idea is to put them in a craft mall, where they are set up in a store for people to see in person, and you do not have to be there to sell them. We have one in my hometown, called the Sandusky Craft Mall. You pay for shelf space and when things sell, a small commission goes to the craft store, and the rest goes to you.
Woodcarving is such a wonderful art. What kinds of things do you carve?

Try www.Bonanzle.com, it is like ebay but cheaper and easier to use etc. and the items seem to sell for more than ebay.
