Why do they need to take so much blood out of you to do a blood test?

What do they do with all that blood?

Last month, I had a complete blood work done and the lab drew 5 tubes of blood~each tube was drawn to test for different things that my OWN doctor wanted like for cholesterol, thyroid, sugar levels, and liver function. I was talking with the nurse at the lab where my blood was drawn and commented on the amount of blood. She told me that the amount of blood that she had drawn from me was probably no more than a tablespoon to 2 tablespoons~it just looks like alot!

Remember, some or most of those tubes that the blood goes in has other stuff in it`that is why they often shake the tubes after blood is drawn~

Don't panic, the doctor has to tell you why and what the blood is being drawn for~he just cannot test you, for, say, drugs, unless you are informed. Good luck and I hope that this helps you! ~*.*~

It looks like alot but really isn't and when the blood is drawen the test will be done depends on what test your doctors has ordered and why he has had you get blood drawen and most of the blood will be used for the tests the rest is gotten rid of by placing in hazard bags then destroyed.
