Do NFL Fans/Teams have any patience anymore?

I mean 26 td's 13 ints and a 8-4 record as a starter this season in Tony Romo and you want him gone? (Romo was injured) Also, I remember here in New Jersey a ton of Giants fans saying Eli Manning was garbage and they wanted him to be traded 2 seasons ago...hmm...would you guys have won the Superbowl then? Also, Steelers fans thinking Ben Roethlesberger should be benched so Leftwich can start. Which QB won you a Superbowl again?

You see teams showing no loyalty to their QB's in starting rookie srubs ahead of them. (In some cases it works like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco but who saw these guys being the saviors that they are?) and how are Matt Leinart and Vince Young doing?

Troy Aikman started his career 1-15 and if he played nowadays you know how many Superbowl victories the Cowboys would have? 0...teams demand success now and nearly all don't have patience for the future. ITs a shame because the Great Wall of China wasn't built in 1 day.

Update:

Thomas, I'm not talking about Steelers coaching though on this one, I'm talking about part of the Steelers fan base. I see people on here who are Steelers fans who want Leftwich in over Roethlisberger. PITS coaching is definitely solid, patient, and consistent

Update 2:

Ortho - good call on the Vikes and Tavaris...I know there are more players that are getting snubbed from starting positions but I don't know em' all since I'm not a fan of all 32 teams lol. I knew Tjacks was playing well, but it just didn't initially pop into my head. NAME MORE NAMES please (if you guys know any) because its unfair to leave em' all out.

Update 3:

Chad, yeah I'm 20 and have been watching the NFL for a while but hardcore the last 3 years. I don't know too much about the NFL but I just read some of the most idiotic statements I have ever read in my life in the Football category and I have throw some facts out on people. I follow the games, look into numbers, and try not to be biased for my favorite team (the Jets)...people know this because I think he should not be in the Pro-bowl and Rivers should.

    Romo and Manning:

the only reason romo & manning are / were under scrutiny is / was entirely due to the media. clearly they are both very good quarterbacks, both some of the finest in the NFL.

    Roethlisberger:

roethlisberger facing criticism is partially his fault, although given his history, it's evident the blame isnt entirely his. first, his offensive line is terrible as evidenced but the number of sacks given up and virtual lack of a run game. it's amazing the steelers havent addressed this clear issue in last years draft or free agency. steeler fans must hope they finally address this need. also, it is also a possibility that whomever the o-line coach is, is not a very good coach. the previous offensive line coach, russ grimm, was a brilliant o-line coach who always provided the offense with an o-line that could first and foremost run block.

however, not all the sacks can be blamed on the offensive line, because roethlisberger tends to hold onto the ball too long, always hopeful for the big play. he rarely rushes, and it's a shock when he actually does throw the ball away.

roethlisberger has been impressive when he runs the no-huddle, and i constantly wonder why they do not utilize it more, as they are very efficient. it seems to work because the receiver's routes are shorter, so ben doesnt have to sit in the pocket as long for the play to develop, thus he can release the ball quicker. if arians truly trusted roethlisberger (he has been saying he's given roethlisberger a larger role in the offense this season) he would allow roethlisberger to call the plays & use the no-huddle

steeler fans have a case against roethlisberger. he is turnover prone, though given his past (15-1 rookie year, super bowl ring, youngest quarterback to EVER win a super bowl, most wins by a quarterback in his first five years in the nfl) i cannot believe he is the true source of steeler fans pain.

    matt ryan and joe flacco:

these two quarterbacks are very impressive...i'm shocked that they are only rookies, they way they carry themselves. both quarterbacks are brilliant, do what is necessary to win games, and are efficient. they simply dont give away those turnovers and can keep their cool under pressure.

it has been said that the baltimore offense could be much more complex, though there are issues which prevent it, issues which flacco is not a part of. there are statistics that show flacco actually performs better under pressure which is hard to believe. a rookie quarterback that prefers the rush? madness

ryan has been extraordinary this year as well. the falcons finished last year 4-12, and ryan has led them to a 10-5 record and could very well lead them into the playoffs. i think he is also part of roddy white's success this year. white has had at least 54 yards in every game this year, except last week at minnesota, which is not a slouch defense. white also has seven 100+ yard games.

    2006 NFL Draft

the '06 draft is notable for many underachievers. matt leinart and vince young were both apparently destined for greatness, and they both remain backups to ancient yet very experienced quarterbacks in kurt warner and kerry collins. reggie bush, the running back from usc with tremendous talent, hasnt proven why he was so hyped until this season, but due to injuries, he has fallen and pierre thomas has risen to greatness out of nowhere.

Lack of patience is also apparent in head coaching. Take the Oakland Raiders as the key example. How long have the Oakland Raiders been below .500? since their super bowl season in 2002. that would be six consecutive seasons, with no apparent sign of improvement. Part of this, is Owner Al Davis' lack of patience with his head coaches. During this six year span, Oakland has had 5 coaches. Ridiculous? i sure think so. Al Davis is unable to trust any head coach, and allow them the freedom to do their job. Whenever a head coach does something he dislikes, he sticks his hand in the situation. He loves control, and is most likely the key reasons for his team's suffering. His love of the game prevents the Raiders from getting ahead, as sad as it may be. As much as I hate to say it, Oakland will not get anywhere as long as Al Davis is the Owner AND the GM.

Obviously head coaches need at least three years to develop a team in most cases, although there are exceptions to every rule (See: Mike Smith, John Harbaugh), the same goes with players. They can have slumps, whether it be the beginning, middle, or end of their careers. They could also just drop off suddenly, after apparent greatness. Ultimately, it is up to the GM's and head coaches, who to place into the spotlight and find who can take the heat.

Although their fan base doesn't, the Phillidelphia franchise has been very patient with the Andy Reid Donovan McNabb regime in Philli. I give them credit and although they havent won a super bowl they had gone to one and played in 4 NFC title games. Also, the Steelers have had 3 coaches in about 35 years so they are pretty patient as well. The Rooney's are probably the best owners in football and they have 5 rings to show for it.

Ok well as for fanbases I think that this year is a bad year for QBs that arent playing well. The reason for that is that fans see guys like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco stepping in and immediately turning their teams into winners, so fans of teams like the Raiders cant understand why guys like JaMarcus Russell cant do it. But look at the Eagles, they have stuck with McNabb through thick and thin and it has for the most part paid off. There will always but talk, but whats important is what the franchise does. If they are good fans, they will support the decisions that the franchise makes (unless they hire Gene Chizik).

I could not agree more, I do NOT understand people one bit. Ill list some numbers for some people to look at. Matter of fact I will just list my entire post on another topic. I just dont know where people get their information. You atleast know what you are talking about and you are one of the few on here. Im going to guess your older then 23 or so? Great facts you presented in the question as well. If Peyton Manning played for the Lions, does he have his numbers? If Brady played for Jacksonville, does he have rings all over the place? I mean its a TEAM game. For example........Saturday night, Romo drove the ball downfield against probably the best defense in the league and threw TWO tds with under 4 minutes in the game. The Ravens knew they had to pass yet he still passed for 2 tds in 4 minutes. Dallas' defense blows it an gives up 2 80 yard runs and you know what you hear on espn..........."Tony Romo fails again, and the Cowboys continue to struggle in December". So it was Romo that gave up 2 80 yard runs? Then the people hear that on tv who probably watched 24 seconds of the game an they come on here saying he cant win in December without having one bit of a clue of what happened.

    44 games played

    80 Tds

    45 ints

44 games played and thats bad ha? Please list your teams QBs numbers in the last 44 games. What qb is expected to win a handful of championships when he has played 44 games in the NFL? Unless its Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, Id almost garauntee you their numbers arent as good. Also, has your qb won a Super Bowl during his last 44 games played? Please answer this. Use your brain, use facts. Are you people ten years old? That honestly has to be it, I mean I cant think of any other reason for the reasons that people come up with. Where do you get your information? Mine came from NFL.com

Peyton Mannings numbers in 47 games, 3 more games then Romo

    88 tds

    35 ints

Ben Roethlisbergers numbers in 45 games, 1 more then Romo

    67 tds

    48 ints

    want me to keep going?

Eli Mannings numbers in 47 games, 3 more then Romo

    68 tds

    48 ints

Carson Palmers numbers in 48 games, not this years included, 4 more games then Romo

    86 tds

    45 ints

Brett Favres numbers in 47 games, 3 more then Romo

    67 tds

    52 ints

I agree completely... Lets look at Tjacks 4 a second. U might say he is horrible becuase his overall is like 70 something on your madden game that most of you fans who dont watch the games base your thoughts from. 1st 2 games lets be honest he was bad. 1st game he had a 59 rating 2nd game he had a 73.3 rating. Both of the teams are in the top 12 in pass defense. Top 5 earlier in the year. Now he has had a 143.8, 135.5, and a 98.5 rating. the last one would be higher if he didnt make a crucial fumble but he hasnt thrown 1 pick in the last 3 games. Wish we could have said that about Gus Frerotte (12 tds 15 picks)

But if u recall he won every game he started last year just about

and preseason he never had a rating below 116 as a starter

so were the vikings impatient? or perhaps Jacks needed to be benched?

Yeah, I like Romo and don't understand why he gets so much crap.

I know people will disagree, but he reminds me of a young Brett Favre. Plays with total instincts. Will make mistakes, but is also a differencemaker.

He is the best QB Dallas has had since Aikman and plenty of teams would love to have him including the Bears, Rams, Lions and Bengals.

I don't think you can put Tavaris in the same sentence as Romo. He makes decisions that cost Vikings games and fumbles too much.

Too early to tell, but I really like Tyler Thigpen. Talk about wearing your heart on a sleeve playing for a terrible team. KC didn't win many games, but he is a competitor.

They haven't had patience in DECADES!! As a former Dallasite, and avid fan of Tom Landry, I used to have some respect for NFL players and fans. That's been gone ever since Landry was fired and I got to look at the people more objectively and not as a fan of one of the greatest coaches the NFL has ever had. It was upon this more objective review of fans and players that I realized that fans have NO LOYALTY whatsoever, and, in realizing this, especially among Cowboy fans, I decided one year, about 15 years ago, to find the losingest team in the NFL and support it "come-hell-or-high-water". The two losingest team back then were the new Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals. Since I can't stand the Raven, and I hated the new Raven uniform, and the fact that they left Cleveland to go to Baltimore, I chose the Bengals as the losingest team I would support. I don't really support them, or ANY NFL team, but, at least I'm consistent. And the same issues are true of the NHL, NBA, MLB, NCAA, NASCAR, and the others. Sports fans are very impatient, demanding, and seem to leave their brains in the bathroom when they come out to mix with the rest of us. If I had the money, which I don't, I'd "low-ball" Jerry Jones, buy the Cowboys, and either rename them "Tom's Boys" or dissolve the franchise altogether, and dissolving the franchise is a very entertaining idea. I see your point, but, being a former Cowboy fan, from about 1963 to when Landry was fired, I get a bit heated in the issues surrounding his team. God Bless you.

I agree. The problem is that the people who rant that BS on YA! are likely bandwagoners that don't follow football closely or don't know crap about how the game is played. They forget that football is a team sport. They think if a team loses, it is because of the QB. That is NOT always true....... unless you are JT O'Sullivan.

If your going to criticise a team for losing, at least sound somewhat knowledgeable about why they are losing. If the QB gets sacked silly all the time or and the running game goes nowhere, could it possibly be the O-Line? If teams are scoring heavy on a team, could it possibly the defense to blame?

Thanks for making a valid point.

Thumbs up to those who agree.

Any pro sports team is going to have black seeps who out perform others. Look at MBL players like George Brett

and Pete Rose have produced what your talking about in

mass quota . Why are you crucifying football fans for a problem that is a all sports that are pro!

this is like the smartest post i've seen on here. people think that if you're qb doesn't take you to the superbowl, then it's time for a new one. most people don't even take the offensive linemen into play. without them, a qb couldn't do anything...

the reason is tony romo is a good qb who is overrated and over hyped. If he played for the raiders or the lions, he would not have those stats.

He has a team filled with talent, yet he cannot get it done when they need him to, and thats what dallas fans are tired of dealing with
