Is anyone Bahai? Can you help me?
What exactly do you believe when it comes to a few things like....
Jesus
Muhammad
Prophets
NKJV Bible
Alchohol
Marriage
Christmas
I'm dating a guy who grew up Bahai, and he doesn't really practice but the beliefs are well ingrained and it's confusing when we try to celebrate Christmas, or understand forgiveness, or humility, or prayer. I just need help understanding what the individual practices and beliefs are of a Bahai person.

Jesus: Son of God, born of a Virgin. Died on a cross. Resurrected. The Bible tells us so. That being said, Baha'is believe that science and religion must co-exist, so there is or will be scientific evidence to prove all aspects of spiritual belief, so faith can/will not be totally blind.
Muhammad: The "Seal of the Prophets"...the last of the "prophetic" era of religious revelation. Baha'u'llah's dispensation began the golden era of spirituality, where humanity has grown/matured to a point where all the lessons have been given...now we have to use them to bring about world peace through spiritual teachings rather than weapons. But we are not pacifists. It is complicated. lol
Prophets: All true Manifestations (Prophets) of God come to bring the teachings of God for the era/area in which that Manifestation walked the earth. Jesus and the Gospels first taught the concept of teaching the world, as did Muhammad. Baha'u'llah taught that the Word and good deeds, not the sword, will bring mankind together.
NKJV Bible: I think I read somewhere that the NKJ is the "official" version, but personally I prefer the NIV. All holy texts are authentic, as long as it is attributed/translated from the original teachings (like the Dead Sea Scrolls, etc). That being said, Baha'is have a plethora of holy texts they study and meditate. Baha'is study Bibles/Qurans/Gitas to further understand those religions. Not necessarily to practice those religions. We have our own faith.
Alcohol specifically, and any other imbibement that keeps the mind distracted from their path to God, is not allowed. Medicines from a doctor are allowed.
Marriage: Hetero. No sex before or outside Marriage. Simple ceremony (One line recited by each is all that is needed). Express consent from all living parents.
Christmas: Christian Holy day. Baha'is celebrate or participate in Baha'i holy days. Baha'is close to Christians may celebrate Christmas with family and friends.
Prayers are recited. Hundreds of prayers are in print in English that were written by Baha'u'llah and Abdul-Baha. Why "wing it" when the prayer comes directly from the source. Of course, I say a little prayer of my own when the mood strikes. Daily prayer is obligatory.
Being in a constant effort to seek closeness to God, we are to be humble at all times. My opinion...I never know when God is watching. I try to act in His shadow always.
Jesus taught HUGE on forgiveness. Seems like the right route. ;)

I am not Baha'i, but I follow their belief of progressive revelation.
They believe that Jesus, Muhammed, etc. were all prophets sent by God to give us God's word.
I have no idea what version of the Bible they use, but they do follow the Bible as well as the Quran, as well as most other holy books, including their own, the Kitáb-i-Aqdas.
They strongly believe in marriage, and in chastity before marriage.
I do not think they have a prohibition against Alcohol.
Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birth. Even though Christ was most likely born in the fall, we celebrate it in the Winter. However, since Jesus is a prophet to the Baha'i, I don't see why Christmas would be a problem.

Hi,
i am a Baha'i and
we believe in all the Maniestations of God : Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, and ours too..The Bab and Baha'u'llah. All the Manifestations come from One God, so all the religions are in essence the same. The only difference is time.
I dont know what that kind of Bible is, but anyway we also believe in The Holy Books that the Manifestations have written, so yes.
This prohibition includes not only the consumption of
wine but of "everything that deranges the mind", and he
clarifies that the use of alcohol is permitted only when it
constitutes part of a medical treatment which is implemented
"under the advice of a competent and conscientious
physician, who may have to prescribe it for the cure of some
special ailment".
(Baha'u'llah, The Kitab-i-Aqdas, p. 227)
Marriage is very important in the Baha'i faith....
"The question you raise as to the place in one's life that a deep bond of love with someone we meet other than our husband or wife can have is easily defined in view of the teachings. Chastity implies both before and after marriage an unsullied, chaste sex life. Before marriage absolutely chaste, after marriage absolutely faithful to one's chosen companion. Faithful in all sexual acts, faithful in word and in deed."
(Compilations, Lights of Guidance, p. 360)
{Chastity in the strict sense means not to have sexual intercourse, or sexual intimacies, before marriage.}
(Shoghi Effendi, The Light of Divine Guidance v II, p. 69)
I think, it is ok to celebrate Christmas with your friends and family, but the Baha'is dont usually organise it.
I hope i could help you! If you have anymore questions, dont hesitate to contact me. :) Have a nice day!
oh and Merry Christmas!!
