ATV Frame Welding Help Please ASAP?
i have a 2003 kfx400 and the frame has a crack all the way around the bottom frame tubing where the bottom a arm goes somebody tryed to repaire it before and did sloppy work i have never welded a tube like atv framing so what would be the best way here was my thought on how to do it
grind all the old weld of best i can and reweld and get a sheet of quarter inch metal and where the new welded up crack was also drill a hole not sure how big yet where the crack was and do a puddle weld and do that in a few spots for extra support i got another frame but it has no title and the numbers was grinded off can i take the number plate of my 2003 and put on the new frame it would be much easier
my kawasaki kfx400 frame does have the serial numbers and i have the title to it but its the broke frame and i got the z400 frame and it had the numbers grinder off thats why i was just going to take the plate off my kfx frame and weld it to the z400 i dont need to take it to a weld shop i can weld lol

I would match up the two pieces of tubing as close as possible and if there is enough room make a gusset to put in there for strength. Ground off serial #s kinda tells me you have a hot frame, why else would someone grind them off ? Someone good with a wire welder should be able to fix that frame better than new. If It's broke where I think it is there should be plenty of room for a gusset.
Good Luck

Get a piece of tubing that fits over the broken tubing tight and weld around it to the frame.

best to take it to a welding shop or a bike shop really not much you can do but try and fix it sucks most likely a new frame.. and with number ground off makes it not wise to use it but if you got to i would

sounds like question you should ask the dmv. if you do it, can you take the number plate off in such a way that it would not be able to detected and then when you read the title, would it match. if those two match the title and the plate I'd go for it.
