What scope should I buy for my new 22. rifle?

This Christmas I got a carbine stainless steel Ruger 10/22 rifle. I want to get a scope for it but I don't know what kind i want to get. Do you have any suggestions? I don't want to spend over $100 though.

One of the most economical and feature rich 22 rimfire scopes I have seen in a long time is the BSA Sweet 22.

The most awesome part is the BDC. Once calibrated - it lets you instantly go from a 50 foot zero to a 175 foot zero. This is great for grouse and rabbits.

I have this on my Ruger 10/22. You will not be disapointed with it.

First I would suggest you learn to use the sights on the rifle until you master them at shorter ranges. Once you have that down, you could move on to a scope. I would not suggest the BSA Sweet 22 if this is your first scope and or rifle (This is because it has drop compensation and could be a little confusing at first). I would suggest getting a "Rimfire" scope at any local sporting goods or gun store. Most scopes for 22 rifles under 100 bucks will be about the same quality.

I happen to feel that Nikon scopes are cheaply made. But, they work just fine on a rimfire rifle for plinking and informal target shooting. I was able to find some good deals on Nikon scopes on eBay last year. I paid about $60 plus shipping for the 4x models.

Make sure it is a rimfire scope with parallax set to ~ 50 yards not 100 yards.
