Disk Space?!? Help please- 10 points!?

I have a Sony computer. I've been told that many, if not all, Sony computers, have their main harddrive divided into two. I have Local Disk C and Local Disk D. Disk D is much larger, but Disk C is what everything is saved onto. I can't move things from C to D; I keep getting an error message. How can I change the amount of space on each disk, making Disk C have a larger capacity and Disk D a smaller one? Or is there a way that I can make it so that everything is automatically saved to D, like computer memory? My Disk C is full and I can't do anything with my computer that requires even minimal disk space. Please help- 10 points to Best Answer!

Update:

C is 14.9 GB

D is 61.3 GB

D is much larger...I don't know why. I don't even have much stuff in my C drive either, it's just small.

Unless you have and know how to work a program like Partition Magic or Partition commander, the best option is to clean up the space you have.

Search for a program called CCleaner.

It can remove unneeded files from your system and free up space.

    OR

Anything in your 'my documents' folder can safely be moved to the D: drive. If you try to move ANYTHING else...you can crash the system.

how big is your c: drive and d: drive? the d: should be the restore/recover drive, and should be a fraction of the size of the c:.

EDIT/ADDED: It sounds like whoever set your pc up requested custom partitions. I have a couple clients who insist on this - making their C relatively small, and leaving D huge for storage. This is fine, as long as the user knows about it :)

So, to use the system the way it is set up, you want to relocate your MyDocuments folder over to D:, and relocate your email store over their as well. To move MyDocuments, right click on the icon for My Documents, then choose Properties. Click the Move Location (or Move on Vista), and browse over to the D: drive, create a new folder (MyDocs is fine) and highlight it. follow the prompts to move. This will take a while. Then, for email, it depends on your program. For Outlook Express, you click on Tools, Options, Maintenance, then Store Location and Move (or Change). Again, browse over to D: and follow the prompts to move. Exit OE and the next time you open it, the files will be moved.

If you use something other than OE, you can edit your question and I can give those instructions.

Finally, from now on, any new programs you install, be sure to change the drive it is installing on over to D (default is always C: so you'll just change that letter, leaving the rest the same).

kbugiell is right....D should be a restore partition which should not be touched at all and should be much smaller than the C Drive.

you may see some spaces in D but that's probably going to be less than 5% of your total disk space.

I'd say time to clear up your junks on C drive.

Try the following to clear up some junks:

    =========================================

Clean up your internet temp files from EACH AND ALL user log in. (more info below)

Clean up your normal temp files.

Delete all files in following directory.

Note: Replace User with your user name folder

Use Control +A to highlight all and Shift Delete to delete without move it to garbage can first

    C:\WINDOWS\Temp

    C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp

    C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

    Open Internet Explorer

    Click on Tools

    Internet Options

    Click on

    1. Delete Cookies

    2. Delete Files

    3. Clear history

    4. Click on Setting

    5. Click on VIEW FILES

    6. Delete any remaining files ( “Ctrl+A” key to select all files and then “Shift+Del” to delete all of it without moving them to recycle bin)

    7. Click on “Back Space” Key

    8. Double click on “TEMP” folder and delete remaining files in Temp folder ( Again “Ctrl+A” key to select all files and then “Shift+Del” to delete all of it without moving them to recycle bin)

    Open up your Firefox

    1. click on Tools

    2. click on “Clear private data”

    3. check all items.

    4. Click on “Clear private data now”

After all this. EMPTY your garbage can.
