Can anyone suggest a surefire way of deterring cats from my patio?
I have just witnessed my neighbours cats tear apart a blackbird on my patio. I always used to feed the birds every morning and I got quite used to them coming down for breakfast. I've never been too fond of cats but after that I believe I quite hate them.

You can buy a device that emits a high pitched electrical sound which will deter the cats from going onto your patio (so long as they arn't deaf). My neighbour has one 'hidden' in her hedge, i can hear it when walking up my path, its to stop my cats from going into her garden.

Get one of those high powered super soaker guns. Catch a cat with that a few times and they will keep well away.
The cat is simply following instinct and could no sooner leave the blackbird alone as humans could not talk too each other.

Surely you can't hate cats for doing what comes naturally to them. It's their instinct to hunt and not their fault at all. They don't know it's right to catch mice and rats (for which we are truly grateful or we'd be over run)but wrong to catch birds. Remember it's survival of the fittest in Nature and many birds die of cold and hunger.
Plenty cat deterrents suggested already above, you might try.
Good luck.

Buy some Cat Pepper and sprinkle it around the borders of the patio, that should keep them away.

Cats aren't going to stop catching birds.See if putting the bird feeder somewhere where the cat can't get to them will help

My gran continuously used to place orange peel over her backyard the place she did no longer prefer the cats. It appeared to artwork for her yet i do no longer understand how medical it particularly is. And would not look that acceptable the two!

You can purchase cat deterrent sprays which you would spray around your patio. Also, you can purchase small devices which emit a sound which is unpleasant to cats which we can't hear. (However, this may be more pricey)
Hope this helps :)

Tell your neighbors to make sure their cats don't come to house. You can also put up a fence.
