Did you get laid off?
How did the company tell you? For me they herded everyone into a conference room, told us we would be let go and that the company couldn't pay severance. It was pretty lame but I'm glad I don't work for them anymore and can get something better.

I did in 1992 we had about 300 and they picked 100 or so to terminate. I had just gotten promoted to another department so was new there. Everyone knew people were coming to downsize us and worried if it would be them. We did accounting software and I had gone from support to development then loaned back to support when the year was developed.
My manager came and said she wanted to talk to me, I told her I didn't have time to talk maybe next week, she said I had time now. So I knew what was happening since many had already packed up and left that day. When she said I was going to be given two weeks notice starting Monday when the HR people came I told her not to worry about me I would find something.
So I went to the support manager and asked for a job, he said he let 5 go that day and considered letting 1 more go so I could come back but didn't think it was fair. He called HR and ask them to give me until April instead of Feb on my notice. Then development wanted me for another couple of months. I ended up quitting but working in development from home. I quit my new job and came back the next tax season then quit again to take another job.

No, I see it looming though. In our office the newest staffers were laid off until business "picks up". I know I'm on a sinking ship, and that's the worst feeling of all. I'm applying for a job with the county in April, when school is done. You can get something better. As they say, when one door closes another opens. Peace!

Luckily, I stay at home and work from home to help out. But I feel bad about every person that has. I thought about them so much at Christmas and prayed for them, I know they made it through but I still hear stories every day about more and more getting laid off and I pray for them and their families and children every day and I will again now right now! I am sorry,

My mom did. Her boss couldn't pay her anymore and her previous checks occasionally bounced.
