Do you agree with the unemployed not getting a tax break?

Obama's "tax cut" is going to be on the taxes that are taken out of your salary. So, for those who recently lost their jobs with the economic downturn, there is no relief. Is this fair to those who are hurting most and in the most need?

Update:

Black Sabbath: What of those who paid taxes for part of this year and were recently laid off?

Update 2:

Black Sabbath and others: What of those who paid taxes for part of this year and were recently laid off?

You have to pay taxes to get a tax break. Essentially, any return at tax time is actually your own money that the Govt took in the form of taxes and are now returning to you as an overpayment on your part based upon the calculations used. If someone is unemployed and doesn't pay taxes they are not entitled to anything back. It's not found or free money.

Now, if someone was employed during part of the tax year and a tax break was given then they would receive a proportional amount back based upon what they paid in the first place. Other programs would be in place to assist those that were out of work, either directly or through trying to get firms to hire more employees.

Actually if they are receiving unemployment benefits they are taxed on those. It would be nice to see a tax break on that. But I suppose if they worked for part of the year, then they would get a tax break on that income.

I would have to see how the plan works to give an accurate opinion.

People also pay taxes on rental income, gambling, pension, etc.

How could those with no income receive a tax break? They could receive welfare, but a tax reduction would do nothing for the unemployed. It is impossible to pay less taxes if you pay none.

Why would someone who doesn't pay taxes get a tax break?

That's like giving you a refund on an item you shoplifted.

Nothing Obama can do to effect this years tax returns he doesn't take office until Jan. 20th.

Changing withholdings will take effect faster with more changes coming later.

All we can do is wait and see what happens.
