Does anyone show in UKC Breed?

I have been thinking about entering my dog in a UKC show. I have always only showed in AKC. Maybe my reason is dumb, but there is another competitor in UKC that I would like to beat. :) She is very cocky, and it's just one of those things. I am not a professional handler, so I know I can show. The rules are a little odd though. No treats or toys in the ring? Does anyone know how the placements etc work?

Update:

I know you can not be a professional, but I wonder if teaching agility classes would make me a professional? I know in horses if you give lessons or train at all you would be considered a pro. Not sure if it crosses over into the breed ring?

Update 2:

I think if you met this person you may understand my wanting to beat her. She is really mean to everyone. She doesn't really show AKC anymore. My dog is very good, and could beat her. Not sure that he will, but he is good enough to. I guess I just hate sore losers, and people that don't have good sportsmanship at events.

The rules and placements are pretty much the same as in UKC. The rules for a championship are different, however. You need 100 points for a championship. You need 3 "wins over competition" to get your championship. (competition doesn't have to be same breed- if you go to groups and place over another dog, that's a competition win).

For points- you get 10 for winning your class, 15 for winners b*tch/dog, and 10 for BOB.

The rules specify no bait in the ring, however, *some* judges will allow it. Usually, at a show, the judge will have a sign posted as to whether or not they allow bait in the ring.

Past that, it works pretty much the same.

EDIT: No- teaching agility lessons does NOT make you a professional. If you own your dog, and you are showing your own dog- you are legal in UKC.

I think the "no professionals" clause only applies to Professional Handlers -- not trainers or instructors.

Dunno about the treats/toys thing. Seems like if you can wear jeans in the ring, you should be able to use bait. Just like a fun match.

I'd enter a UKC show if it was convenient. A good way to practice, if nothing else. I entered a set of local IABCA Intl. shows last spring and had a blast.

UKC does not allow professional handlers in the ring. A professional handlers is someone who gets paid for handling a dog. A pro handler can handle their own dog.

Teaching agility, obedience is not considered a professional handler. Teaching obedience will only effect you if you enter UKC obedience trials, so UKC does recognize titles earned in other venues, where you would have to enter the "B" classes.

Your always going to meet people who are poor sportsman, in every venue, in every sport, be it obedience, agility, breed, weightpull etc.

I usually just ignore people like that, I enter things to have a good tiime with my dog.

I have never actually shown a dog in UKC, only in AKC, but I've been told that UKC is a lot more laid back. The showing process works the same way, but I can't speak to placement categories.

You can't be a professional show handler, no treats or toys, and as for placements, check out their site at www.ukcdogs.com. They have a page that explains it all. Good luck! I love a revenge story! LOL!

I wouldn't enter to beat one competitor. It makes you sound cocky. I'd enter because my dog was worthy and whatever.

Perhaps they had a problem in the past with treats and toys in the ring.
