Did last night's Northwestern vs Mizzou game change anyone's predictions about...?

...the Texas vs OSU game or the NC game (Florida vs OU). I changed mine. I did have Texas winning big and OU winning a close one, but if that's what passes for defense in the Big-12, both of those teams are in for a big suprise.

I mean, Northwestern led for 90% of that game, and only lost it (in typical NW fashion) by having a couple stupid sepcial teams errors. The game went into OT, and Northwestern really looked like the better team during the whole thing.

So if Northwestern...a team who just barely beat a bunch of the mediocre Big-10 teams & some mid-major teams this year, who got absolutey throttled by every good team they played, and who never even had to play PSU...the #1 team in the Big-10, if they managed to take it down to the wire like that in San Antonio against the Big-12 North champions...does that make anyone else change their minds, even a little bit, about the possibility of Ohio State and Florida destroying Texas & OU?

Update:

I love some of the answers in here, they are good examples of the hypocracy & irony going on in college football right now. Like "Dave P" for example who manages to say that you cannot draw "straight line conclusions" or stereotype a conference by one team, and then in the same breath says takes shots at OSU and the Big Ten...

A bunch of you have said something similar to "don't stereotype a conference by one team", yet that's exactly what is going on with Ohio State in the Big-10. Why can't I then say that the Big-12 might be garbage if Northwestern, a school with under 10,000 students that is the traditional whipping post of every decent team Big-10, led the Big-12 North champions all the way into overtime? Why can't I point to Illinois, who ended up 8th or 9th in the Big-10 and who lost to every somewhat decent team in the conference, when they opened their season by falling just short @ Missouri 50-42?

In any case, that game last night might end up being one of the best bowls

Update 2:

really Felicia? That's odd, because I don't ever recall making any "anti Big-12" posts before...ever. This isn't even an anti big12 post, I just asked if last night's game changed anyone's mind.

Fact: that game was a perfect example of Big-12 defense

Fact: Mizzou is the 5th best team at worst, 4th at best in the Big-12...not 6th or 7th...nice try though. They are the Big-12 North Champs.

Fact: Missouri came out firing, and just about lost. That was not there worst game...at all. Daniel threw more interceptions against Texas.

Fact: if Illinois (#9 big-10) & Northwestern (haven't won a bowl game since 1949) give the Big-12 problems...then I think Ohio State and Florida are going to walk all over you guys.

Oklahoma hasn't played a defense that even belongs on the same field with PSU's. Sam Bradford would have to be carted off on a stretcher before halftime.

It didn't change my mind. I think all the games are played on the field, not in the media, public mind, or on another field. tOSU had no chance against Miami in tOSU's 14-0 NC season until the game started. PSU has won 3 of the last 4 against USC. That doesn't mean PSU will win this year anymore than media blabbering means that USC has won before the coin flip. tOSU hasn't lost yet & neither has OU,

The biggest weakness in the Big 10 this year may only be that tOSU is having an inconsistant season.

So, I'm with ya on the silly generalizing about one team representing a conference. tOSU is about 0-9 vs the sec and you hear and read a constant stream of the sec being incredible and the Big 10 lame.

But, the rest of the Big 10 is 7-4 against the sec in bowl games the past 5 years. I expect an even split verses the sec this year too with the sec having a losing to at best break even record this bowl season.

It's not as simple as drawing these kind of straight line conclusions...because this team did this, and they did that against that team who did this against this team, then this should happen. It isn't as simple as that. Different teams matchup differently with each other. I do have my doubts about OU's defense, and I have Florida winning that game, but I don't think there is a chance that OSU beats Texas. Don't get me wrong, I think OSU can be competitive, but they won't win. Texas is a National Championship caliber team, and they could just as easily be in the NC as OU...and maybe should be. However, I don't think anybody would confuse OSU with a National Championship caliber team.

I do have USC's defense being too much for your PSU to handle, though.

To your response: Where in my answer to your question did I take a shot at OSU and the Big 10? I said that OSU is capable of putting up a fight against Texas, but I don't think they are in the same class talent wise. I took no shots at the

Big 10, and I made no blanket statements. Read my reponse a little bit closer before you respond, buddy. Good luck in the Rose Bowl...it should be a good game.

I was wondering when this would come up. NW came to play and did look like the better team and I applaud them for there efforts. But don't base the big 12 off any team in the north div. mizu has a pretty bad pass def, and is nowhere near at the same level as UT and OU. Although I have them winning, I have never thought that UT is going to win big against ohio st. The OU/FL game is going to be good as well with the sooners coming out on top. Oh by the way, i hope your team destroys USC. Good Luck!

The Big 12 as a conference is completely overrated. However, the only team out of the Big 12 I respect is Texas. So, I think Texas does win big over OSU. I'm interested in the OK St vs. Oregon game now. I also think Ole Miss is going to give TT a better game than most people think. Long Live the SEC and of course, Roll Tide!

Missouri doesnt play a lot of defense. They win by outscoring opponents. Yesterday Chase was competely out of synch, which is the knock on Chase i think that he just doesnt show up for big game. I dont think you can take that game as a sign of the rest of the big 12. Especially texas and oklahoma. They play a more complete game. That said I still think florida beat OU but texas will handle OSU easily.

I was not impressed with Missouri last night. But I think Texas will still win by at least two touchdowns over Ohio State... As for Oklahoma.. Florida's explosive on offense, defense and special teams. I think OU is going to be in for a rude awakening.

no- one team does not represent the entire conference. I do see Texas winning by at least 14 points. They are facing a freshman QB- they win murder him even though he does have skill.

Texas and Oklahoma and very good defenses.

I rooting for Stoops- no way they can lose five straight bowl games.

The Big 12 is overrated anyways, no one in tha conference knows how to play defense.

Sorry pal, I've read your anti- Big-12 posts before. You are very biased against them.

Fact: Mizzou is only the 6th best team in the conference at best.

Fact: Chase Daniel had by far the worst game of his career. If he was even HALF of what he usually is, Mizzou wins in a walk. I've never seen so many missed TD passes and cheap interceptions in my life. I would almost swear he was bought off!

Source(s): Oklahoma would be a head of Penn State by 30 at halftime!

the big 12 doesnt believe in playing defense, they just believe in passing the ball 99% of the time to see who is going to win
