Does Hamaas, expect Obama to do something in their favor in this War?

I had read during the elections, that Hamas endorsed Obama...if that is the case, then will Obama slight one of our closest Allies? Israel?...I have a funny feeling, that he wont'...no matter how you spin it, I think that Obama knows that this would be political suicide for him, if he does something against Israel..

They paid for it so I guess they expect it! Problem is that Israel Counter attacked before he comes to Office and they have inflicted much damage that Obama can do nothing about. At this rate by Jan 20th Gaza will be little more than a junk pile. Even Hezbollah is hesitant to get in this one. They remember the 7 day war way to well!

Elements:---Your answer is interesting except you don't go back enough Decades or look closely enough at "cause and effect"! Firstly this conflict has been going on for Hundreds of years, even thousands. I Know the modern state of Israel came into being about 1947 by UN Mandate after WWII and the Holocaust. Second Look why they now Occupy the disputed land! Because of the 6 day war. Awar which came about after Egypt expelled UN peace Keepers (1967) and then they and other Arab countries massed forces along the israel border with the purpose to destroy them! Israel done what any great General would do under the circumstances and launched a pre emptive strike to drive them back andsecure themselves a protective border to prevent further attacks. The Arabs at that time declared their intent to: "Egyptian and Syrian plan to launch a war of annihilation against Israel" This war has been going on to this day but in modern terms had been going on since 1948 and 1956 wars.

Israel has since ceeded some land back, particularly to Eygpt and Jordan in exchange for treaties which Have for the most part been kept.Syria on the other hand has continued to this day along with other arab backing to Annihilate Israel and wipe them from the face of the earth. Iran has recently been making the same statements along with othe Arabs.

Now if anyone threatens to Annihilate me and my family, you better believe I will fight back with everything I have got and I won't wait for them to strike first. The Threat is enough to justify the action considering the relative size of the combatants. Most of the countries involved will not even recognize Israel right to exist!! What would you do? The palistinians have done nothing in the last 50 year to help themselves economically, they put all efforts into Terrorism! They teach their children to "Hate" Jews and now Americans.

They break every treaty and cease fire and use them only as a time out in a football game, to rest, regroup and prepare to strike again. They do not seek economic aid, only military aid, They committ terrorist acts against Elementry schools, Hospitals, religious places and tourist area's. They are to cowardly to strike directly at the Mlilitary targets. They use Human Shields, and suicide bombers of women and children.

Again What would you do if you were Israel? Gaza is not the big problem, it is the whole arab world and their desire to wipe out Isreal! This is far from the last battle Because the Palistinian, Hamas and Hezbollah only know "Kill the Jews"! That is what the teach and that is what the practise!

What sir has Palistine ever done to make thingsbetter for their people? Tody they could be living in the same conditions, minus war as Israel but no they must destroy the Jews!

No I am Not Jewish! I am a 73 year old Christian American of English decent!

I don’t know what Hamas expects Obama to do for it, except try to broker a new truce. Hamas occupies Gaza and both Egypt and Israel have shut down their border crossings into their countries, including the tunnels into Egypt, which are used to bring in food, medicine and weapons. Hamas’ idea of “humanitarian aid” is rockets.

Hamas is now trying to start a new PLO to supplant Fatah. That prospect worries the Egyptians, who fear it will stir up the more radical Islamists in their country. It could even threaten the government of President Hosni Mubarak. If Mubarak should fall there would be chaos in the region. The radical Egyptians, Hezbollah in Lebanon and possibly Syria might decide that would be a good time to attack Israel. If Israel’s existence is threatened, it would probably feel forced to use nuclear weapons to survive. That would be a real catastrophe.

I don’t see an easy way out of this. Hamas makes Fatah look like the Boy Scouts and Hezbollah is not much better. Neither one wants to take on the Israeli Army in the field, but that’s not what terrorists do.

The last I heard, Hamas is estimated to have some 8,000 rockets and Hezbollah has about 12,000. The Hamas fighters are not well respected, but the Hezbollah fighters are fierce and determined.

I don’t know what Obama can do, but he’d better find a way to do something.

Well a rationale human being will try to have a even hand with the issue and I think Obama will try to do that compared to previous administrations who were heavily biased. Let's not forget that Hamas is a materialization and a politization of the Palestinian's decades of mistrust and anger towards the Zionists for their ongoing occupation, militarization, exploitation, humiliation, and inhumane treatments of the Palestinians.

I find it funny how the western media seems to only report on this conflict as if its origins only begain a few weeks ago. What they don't want the public to know is that this conflict has been going on for decades and decades and Isreal as well as Palestine both have many faults...mainly and mostly Isreal for its refusal to end its occupation of Palestinian territories.

I urge you all to look at our American history and that of world history before you draw a bias judgement of this conflict. If television, CNN, FOX, and BBC existed hundres of years ago during the British empire in London, at the time of the American Revolution, they would all be reporting George Washington as a thug, a terrorist, a rebel, a militant, and a traitor for the empire. And most British citizens and those of the empire would view him in the same distaste and manner as westerners do now of Hamas and those citizens would have not known that Washington had a desire and an ambition to free his fellow people from oppression, colonization, and taxation without representation. Let's not also forget that the rich and powerful tagged the terrorist label to Nelson Mandela and Ghandi.

So before you judge, do some research and look behind the lines and the emotions, and the logic and reason of why people resist, rebel, and resort to unwanted tactics to get their points across.

He's not beholden to Hamas. That unofficial endorsement never helped him any. For obvious reasons.

I expect him to still be a friend of Israel but he probably will try to broker a peace agreement between Israel and Palestine. I hope he is a little more open minded. The best thing for Isreal and Palestine is to broker a deal that can actually be successful. Which will have to mean listening to Palestinian grievances too.

    It's how negotiation works.

  • I think many countries, political figures, organizations, etc., have high expectations of Obama. I do think Obama will continue US support of Israel.

I think he wants the killing on both sides stopped! I do!

Trying to bring a peaceful settlement without killing is not choosing sides as it benefits both, unless you look at Israel like Hamas does!

It is attitudes that need to change and we can't do that without listening to both sides. Peoples beliefs are very real, true or imagined, and until they are addressed the fighting, and terrorism, will never stop!

No, also, Obama said early on that if rockets were flying over his house he'd do something about it. So Hamas doesn't expect Obama to do anything for them.

When a military force hides and fires its weapons among civilian population, it is considered a Terrorist organization by International law. Obama recognizes this. A Nation can respond to military targets in civilian settings in self defense.

Palestinian territories and in the same time he should

condemn Israel of excessive use of forced

He already publicly denounced Hamas. Said he didn't blame Israel for defending itself.
