Can't Reformat Laptop (windows xp) Continued..?

Hey guys, please refer to this original question, (and the great responses given.)

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApQF5...

I have some added details, and it wont let me add it onto that question for some reason.

Ok, so i called my Hubby at home and told him what you said... we do have the cd at home. He messaged me back;

"it won't let me boot from the repair/reinstall cd anymore. When I hit boot from cd, it just takes me in circles like if I didn't have the cd"

So any ideas if it wont let us boot from the cd to repair/reformat?

Thanks AGAIN guys for your help.

Update:

Thanks guys. i sent him a message with your tips.

And Frank thanks for answering, i hope you are wrong though, as we can't afford a new laptop :(

    2 guesses, both means your lap top is now a paper weight. unless it is under warranty.

    CD drive has fried. if you have a floppy drive go to the Microsoft page and download the boot from floppy discs.

    2nd guess, worse news then the first, motherboard has fried. motherboards dont go quietly, they die a slow painful death.

    one last try, go into setup and change your boot from to the cd. make that number one.

    then restart, with XP cd in the drive, if that doesnt work, your choices are, try booting from an external cd or hard drive, remove your hard drive and format in another computer, turn lap top into a very pretty paper weight.

    if your are really frustrated, they make decent Frisbees.

    from the 'press F10' to get into the bios I would assume probably a Toshiba or Compaq / HP laptop.

    When he goes into the bios ask him to look for the boot options and to select the CD drive as the first boot device. This should then let the recovery CD boot.
