350D/XT is an older camera. In order oldest to newest:

    300D/Rebel (discontinued)

    350D/Rebel XT (discontinued)

    400D/Rebel XTi (still sold)

    450D/Rebel XSi (current)

and the 1000D/XS is a different series of beginner model SLR

Now unless you are getting a very good deal on this camera, I would suggest at the very least, looking into whether your budget can accommodate one of the more current models. I would suggest that the 400D/XTi and 450D/XSi are both great cameras worth looking at.

All of these cameras are compatible with the same lenses, flashes, and remote shutter switches. All but the XS and XSi use CompactFlash memory (the XS and XSi use SD-card memory).

When you budget, make sure to budget for the following:

    1) Camera

    2) Lens(es) needed to shoot what you want to shoot

    3) Memory card(s)

    4) Carrying pouch/bag/case with room to grow

And optionally, you might want to consider:

    5) Tripod (for night shots, landscapes, panoramic stitches, and long telephoto zoom lenses)

    6) Polariser filter (to get more saturated colours and less glare in your outdoor shots on sunny days)

    7) Extra battery (because it sucks to miss out on a great shot because you don't have any juice left)

    8) Additional lighting if you plan to take professional looking portraiture

As for lenses, you will do well to start off with the kit lens and then figure out what kinds of things you want to try to photograph. Later on you can decide what lens to add to your collection, based on specialized use.

Portraiture photography - you will want a 50/1.4 (or 50/1.8) along with some kind of off-camera lighting to get started with controlled/posed portraiture photography

Extreme close-ups of small things - you will want the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens for doing shots of insects, flowers, tiny objects at such fine detail to show textures and hairs and things like that.

Architecture - if you are taking shots of buildings in tight urban spaces where you cannot back up far enough away to squeeze the shot in, you will need to use a wide-angle lens like a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8

I personally recommend getting a tripod right away, as there are lots of fun things that can be done with a tripod (and a remote shutter switch). Like here:

    Good luck!

The 350D is a very good camera (I had one and have just purchased the 40D which is a big improvement). The 350D has been superceeded by the 400D and the 450D. The price given on your link seems a bit high. You can get the 450D with the 18-55mm IS Lens for £433.99 at Amazon.co.uk

Here are some excellent reviews of EOS DSLRs:

If you do decide to get that camera DO NOT pay that much for it. Even the brand new 450D is less than that.

Well, it's the older model. I'd rather prefer the 400D.

Though you want a professional DSLR, I believe it's better to invest the money on lenses, They'll last longer than any body.

There is no difference, the camera is marketed in the USA as the Rebel XT, in England it is the 350D. I've got one!
