Electric choke install on a 66 302 Ford Mustang.?
What is the right way to hook up the electric choke to the solonoid on the fender wall so that when the key is in the on or start position the choke will be on and when the key is in the off position the choke will be off and not run down the cars battery? Where do the negitive and positive wires for the carb go on the solonoid to fix this problem?

Fasten the ground wire somewhere on the engine. With the engine running, check the voltage of the 2 small lugs on the alternator. One will read 12-13 volts, the other should read 9-10. Hook it to the lower voltage one.

There's no place on the fender mounted starter solenoid to provide the choke with the voltage you require.
The simplest hookup without getting into the fuse box through the firewall would probably be to the park wire on the wiper motor - this is "hot" when the key is in the run position and easily accessible right in the engine compartment.
The ground wire can be hooked to the engine or the chassis.

the electric choke needs power whenever the engine is running to open it, so hook it to to power that only comes on with the key, this could be a alternator wire or the positive coil wire, but not the solenoid, they are either hot all the time or only in start..

the electric choke wiring doesnt go to the starter solenoid at all. it must be connected to one of the the "accessory" wires or terminal coming off the ignition switch that will be powered when the key is in the "run" position.

you would need to a positive wire to you fuse box. use a volt meter to see what is running while the key is in the on position and what is off when it is off. I would attach it to a 20 Amp fuse. you negative can attach to any part of the fire wall or engine block.

1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 is the firing order. There isn't much in the way of wiring under the hood of a '71 Stang either.

well since it works thru heat only need to wire it thru a wire that is only on when switch is really should be wires already there unless your adding it on in that case any wire that is hot when switch is on would do it

you need to wire one hot wire from ign side on ign coil and black wire to engine ground so when ign is off there is no voltage . make sure your on ign side of coil
