OK, obviously the first person who answered has no clue what they are talking about. Unlike, the first person, I am a performance major in music music school.
They do NOT force core classes on you. At most they will only allow you to take 1. The reason is because music majors have to take 10-15 classes per semester unlike any other major. You push 12+ hour days and weekends as well.
1st semester, I was forced into....
Theory
Music tech
Marching band
Orchestra
Symphonic band
Wind ensemble
University Ensemble
Piano
Vocal Methods
Conducting
Rhythm class
Aural Skills
Applied oboe (and this would be my major instrument and everyone is required to take the applied class of their major instrument or voice)
The next semester I had to do...
the next level of music tech, theory, aural, rhythm, conducting, and piano
No marching band in spring
Music history
Percussion methods
String methods

It is dependent fully on in which you wish to visit tuition. Some are very competive and a few take virtually anybody. You must touch the tuition you finally wish to visit and organize a discuss with. Some may even allow you to have a brief lesson. That will deliver you an inspiration the way you stack up. But it us in most cases a lot more approximately how good you play than what you understand. Learn what you'll, however cognizance on fitting a larger participant.

Your first year in any major is filled with getting your core classes out of the way. Basic math, english, science etc.
If you look at a colleges web site that has a music major you can pull up the courses needed.
