Do you need a passport yet to come to Cnada from the US?

My friend from NY wants to visit me here in Ont. Canada in February, does he need to get a passport? Thanks!

    Passports are needed to FLY between the U.S. and Canada. Yhey are not needed for LAND trael until June 1, 2009. Tehn they will be needed for all forms of travel betwen the US. and Canada. See 1st site below to read the law. See 2nd site for all passport appication info. it currently takes 3 weeks t get a passport, but as summer gets closer, the passport service will get busier and it will take longer.

    if he is driving then he does not until July 2009 but he needs his drivers license and birth certificate. If he is flying he needs a passport.

    U.S. citizens need to present either (a) a passport, passport card (scheduled to be in full production beginning in July 2008), or WHTI-compliant document; or (b) a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.

    YES he does if he plans on flying to Canada to see you. If he is going to drive to Canada to see you then he doesn't need it until June 1st 2009.
