If a company mailed me something I didn't ask for and I don't return it, what can they do to me legally?
This company sent my brother something he didn't ask for. He shouldn't have to be inconvenienced to send it back. They then sent him a bill for the thing for $50.

How did this company got your Brothers name and address?
Why don't you call them and find out... their phone number is on their
bill.
I think your brother is leaving out some details... especially if the thing they sent him is something your brother would want.

I dont know (since you did not state) what it is but if you really think that SONY or anyone else is going to say 'okay sorry for the mistake' while you play with the item, YOU AND YOUR BROTHER ARE CRAZY~
Chances are that a corporation or business sent this to you so if you dont have the funds to send the package back, you will not have the funds to hire a lawyer when they sue you.
YOu can also bet that the company will 'find' something with your brothers name on it
You might be able to beat the system but this is a horrible example to set for your brother and one that could prove quite dangerous to him. Furthermore if your brother got this free item from some business that was affiliated with his credit card, he might indeed have already paid for it. Or it could be part of the free day trial
Why not do the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing~
Call the company and you might be able to get a free shipping label.

Who sent it and how did they get brother's name? Could he have sent for it and now can't pay the bill and doesn't want to admit what he did? Find out the truth of the matter first!
There is no genuine inconvenience in returning commercial parcels of unordered merchandise. The post office, UPS, FedEx, etc, all return refused parcels of unordered merchandise and the shipper pays the return shipping. All you have to do is refuse delivery specifying it is "unordered merchandise" & return it unopened. So returns are never an excuse for keeping "unordered" parcels and non-payment of a bill. You keep it, you pay.

Check at the post office but I believe if he did not send away for it he does not have to pay for it. But did he send away for it and is afraid of being truthful? If so the company will have a record of some kind, even a tape recorded telephone order.

Oh yeah it's real difficult to send something back.
Why do I get a feeling there is some fraud involved here somewhere?
