Would you kill for God?

Exodus 32:27, Obadiah 1:8

You know he's going to ask sooner or later. It's just a matter of time.

Update:

Why would he never ask?

Obadiah 1:8-9

8 At that time not a single wise person will be left in the whole land of Edom,” says the Lord. “For on the mountains of Edom I will destroy everyone who has understanding.

9 The mightiest warriors of Teman will be terrified,

and everyone on the mountains of Edom will be cut down in the slaughter.

Exodus 32:27 Moses told them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Each of you, take your swords and go back and forth from one end of the camp to the other. Kill everyone—even your brothers, friends, and neighbors.”

You can look it up if you like.

I'd have to be pretty sure it was God asking me to do it. Right now I could cheerfully kill Robert Mugabe, to save the lives of thousands of others: but that's just my inner James Bond talking.

I'd kill to stop my daughter being raped. Wouldn't you? It's hard to know what we'd do in extremis, but I don't think I can make an absolute principle of: you can never take life in any circumstances. Sometimes you have to, in order to prevent a greater evil. Which is why I can't be a pacifist.

But it's very difficult to know, when we take up arms in a righteous cause, that we really are "killing for God" [= the greater good] and not just from reptile hatred.

Listen to what the Bible,God's word said,When he gave the law to Moses,he said you must not kill plain and simple. He didn't say under this or that circumstance ,he simply said very clear ,You must not kill. The scriptures you quoted true are in the Bible ,but to study the Bible you have to study history. Why were they asked to kill these men.Because of their wickedness and because God had promised his people the promised land.If you read about how terrible those people were you will see why they were to be annialated. One example Jeremiah 7:31 they have sacrificed their sons and daughters upon alters of sacrifice which I did not command them, neither did it come up into my heart.

Jesus said I give you a new commandment that you love one another,John 13:34,35.By this all will know that you are my desciples.Does God ask you to kill or does man ask you to kill ? Think about it.

Matthew 26:51,52 did not Jesus tell Peter to put his sword back in it's place that he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword? If everyone followed Jesus words would there not be peace among all nations? Soon we will see a time in the near future when there will be no more war,Read Isaiah 2:4 Nation shall not lift up sword nation against nation neither will they learn war anymore. Micah 4:3 They will have to beat their swords into plow shares. It will not be brought about by men but only by the true god.Read these scriptures and make your own decision. If we do God's will we can see the time come that Revelation speaks about in Revelation 21:3,4.Keep on praying to learn God's truth from the Bible. And to answer your question,no the true God will never ask you to kill another human being, because life is too precious in his eyes.

I never understood this. Why would an all loving god, who forgives everyone for sins and all that stuff, tell you to go kill people? It makes no sense to me.And telling you to kill family no less? I mean really...WTF?

Edit- @ I love jesus: Wow you are one racist chick. Why anyone would take what you have to say as intelligent in any way is beyond me.

No that would be inconsistent with the Ten Commandments of "Thou Shalt Not Kill" for the true pacifist. However, God does tell us that "those who live by the sword, will die by the sword," so soldiers, incompetent physicians, mercenaries, religious fanatics and mercy killers will eventually have Karma catch up to them.

    no

The commandment "Thou shalt not kill" is really not as general as the King James version would indicate. The commandment actually refers to premeditated, unjustified killing - murder. Although God ordered the extermination of entire cities, He did so in righteous judgment on a people whose corruption had led to extreme wickedness, including child sacrifice. Did God destroy the righteous along with the wicked? In an exchange with Abraham, God indicated that He would spare the wicked to save the righteous. He demonstrated this principle by saving righteous people from Sodom and Jericho prior to their destruction. The charge that God indiscriminately murdered people does not hold to to critical evaluation of the biblical texts.

"You know he's going to ask sooner or later. It's just a matter of time."

What kind of crazed statement is that?

Plus, for goodness sake, read the context, not the single verse.

God would not ask us to kill. The only way that I would even think of killing anyone is if my life was in imminent danger and I had to defend myself.

Don't post blasphemy junk like this.

God does not ask us to kill others. He actually commands us not kill other people. He never changes, so if he commands us no to kill in the Bible, he isn't going to change that.
