Advice on getting a tattoo?
I want to get a small tattoo of something pretty such as a rose or heart. I'm thinking of getting it either on the hip or lower back. What do you think? Any ideas? Also, if you have a tattoo, did it hurt? I'm a bit worried about the pain! Thanks!

advice:
if you can't figure out what you want, on your own, you shouldn't get a tattoo
lower back is the absolute worst place for a girl to get a tattoo
roses and hearts are extremely unoriginal....that may or may not bother you.....but in my opinion....unique is better
and "do tattoos hurt?" is asked on here every day.....using the search bar will get you hundreds of answers to each spot of the body
and none of them will be at all useful to you since it obviously depends on the person getting the tattoo (how they handle pain)

Think long and hard before getting one, they last a lifetime you know.
Try to see some real tattoo's that the tattoo artist has done before choosing them as your tattoo artist.
Look around before saying yes, basic hygiene,
and if you have the option of new needle or sterilized I would pay the extra and get a new needle.
Does it hurt, yes and no, the Black outline hurts more than the colors,
you get used to the pain as such and its not so bad,
that is dependent on place, on bone is pretty bad and coming off muscle, but well, if its what you want, enjoy,
do not get drunk or take pain killers before hand, if you look young take ID, get the best Tattoo you can afford, if you do not find one in your price bracket you like, save for it, and go back when you have the money.
Get advice from your Tattooist on after care, some recommend creams, some do not, ASK.
Chose carefully where you get your tattoo, there are only so many good places for a tattoo, do not waste a good place on something too little.
A tribal will look cool, but hearts and stars are good, Unicorns or Pegasus's are a favourite of Ladies, but anything you personally relate too or has a special meaning will make your tattoo more special to you.
Avoid words or cliches, boyfriend or girlfriends names etc.
Source(s): Have 3, tattoo's are a matter of taste and personal expression, there is no right or wrong, although I do not like people that have just one tattoo, lol, I think they did not like the pain, he he, sorry me just being mean. - phantomsjewelLv 51 decade ago
It hurts but it's not unbearable. I do sugest starting out small but you need to find something that you're going to like for many years. Tattoos are not like hair color....they don't fade away over a time.
My best advice is to type in tattoos into the search bar and look at some different pics. You might find something else you really like.

Careful with the hip area. Your skin will stretch if/when you become pregnant. My old hs teacher told me that her friend from back in the day got a cute heart tat on her right breast. But now that she is in her 50s, that heart has elongated to an ugly shape due to her breast sagging from aging and nursing. So it'd be really gross to have stretch marks breaking up your beautiful artwork. And personally, i think the lower back area is played. foreals. And i do have a tat, it's on my inner right ankle. My skin won't stretch there. I got it done twice b/c my first artist messed me up so i had to redo it. The first time hurt b/c the dude was so hard, he did it prison style. But it didn't hurt at all the second time b/c i told my new guy i wanted clean lines, not thick *** prison lines. If you're worried about the pain, ask for someone who is light-handed. My second guy was. Hope this helps. Good luck.
edit: Also, please consider that your tatoo artist can mess you up if he sucks or is just plain careless. Tattoos are addictive but since i had a bad experience, i will not get another one. Please consider what would be the case if your artwork comes out ugly. the **** is permanent.

Remember it'll be there for the rest of your life. If you can't decide, you don't want any design that much at the moment.
They look pretty until you're about 25, then they look cheap and ugly. Tattoos decay over time, the ink spreads and as your skin spreads as well they look even worse.
Don't make a decision based on what you read here unless it's to wait! You'll feel stupid in older life when you look at it, regret it because you don't like it and remember that you chose it based on what you read on Yahoo Answers!

first of all you have to be really really really sure...if you are, i suggest that you tattoo something that has a meaning, like if you love the beach you can tattoo a sea horse, you know something important that if you look at it instead of regreting you've done it (believe me it happens) you'll remember that something special...you really want it, you have a design, now the tattooing part...i dont want to scare you but the tattooing not only hurts while they're doing it, it hurts after also, like i couldnt sleep that night when i got mine done, so you have to be really prepared and really take care of it.

A tattoo is something that you will have to wear forever so make sure that it means something to you. I havnt got one (yet) but i know people who have and they all say it hurts pretty bad, not trying to scare you or anything, you should just know what to expect. But all the pain will be worth it when you have it.
I prefer tattoos on the lower back but that is just my preference.

If you want to look trashy, then go ahead. Will you still be proud to show it off in five or ten years? Probably not.
If you want to send a signal to guys that you are easy or a ****, then get one on your lower back. That's basically the message those tattoos are sending.

I think that if you truly want a tattoo then you should think very carefully about what it is that you want and where you want it - remember it isnt going to come off, it will always be with you so you have to be sure that you will be happy with it!
It will hurt a little but shouldnt be all too painfull.
Think Carefully
Good Luck
