Deer hunters, what did you bag this season?

Just a few fun questions for the deer hunters here. How did your season go? How many tags did you have, and did you fill them? If you shot a big, how big was the rack? If you were in a hunting party, how did your party do overall?

My season went well. I shot my first deer ever, a doe fawn. She was running and I dropped her with one shot; I'm quite proud of that little deer. I had two tags, but only filled one. Didn't get a buck. Overall, our hunting party shot seven deer: 5 does and two bucks. My mom shot a 10 point buck and my sister shot an 8 point buck. The racks were identical height and width; the only difference was the number of points. Overall, it was a good season for us.

Update:

Congrats on your season, redneckrockerdude! I would have loved to have seen that many deer. Besides the one I dropped, I saw one other doing the whitetail leap at warp speed. Didn't have time to get my gun up, much less get a shot off.

i dropped a 8 pointer, it was my first buck, but 4th deer (ever) that was the only deer i killed this year. i passed up two other bucks because i couldn't get a good clean shot i was sure of. one was a 3 antlered spike and one was a 8 or 10 pointer. and my dad saw a doe, but didn't take the shot for some reason. it was me, my dad and my uncle hunting, my uncle saw many deer but he's not going to kill a smaller buck (like the 8 or 10 i saw) he wants a really big one. so he didn't shoot.

deer season is sadly over. now im waiting for turkey season.

  • Seen 42 deer, put 2 nice bucks down. Missed 2 more (hunt with a dog driving club).

I shot a giant 5 Pointer believe it or not. Our club killed 39 Bucks, 2 Button Bucks, and 4 Does this year.

In the deer herd managment sense, the age of the doe doesnt matter. If you notice any defects on a certain doe (ie injury) take that one. If one of the does has a fawn, personally id pass and take the one without young. The time of the season doesnt matter much either. The other guys are right though about the younger deer having more tender meat.

Congratulations of your family's season and for you getting your first deer. You should be proud!

I killed a 4 point buck and a doe on my land here in Floyd County, Virginia. No trophies, but my freezer is full of great meat and for that I thank God.

My camp got two 7 pointers, a six pointer, a five pointer, and a 9 pointer (my grandfathers). I missed a medium sized buck at 150 yards with my muzzleloader (my first year with it). We also got a 200lbs black bear. I saw a spike horn, the one I shot at and maybe 20-30 doe.

8 point and an antlerless deer. A few squirrels also. 2 more weeks left. I may try for one more deer for the freezer.
