Facebook does not fully remove your account. I assume you want it to be completly destroyed.
Your best bet then is to:
-Open a random dummy email account anywhere to use for this.
-Remove all photo albums and all information data about you.
-Remove all friends. (little x next to your friend in the friends list) This is time consuming if you have more than 20 or so.
-Change your email to the dummy email you made.
-Contact facebook. Account> Deactivate Account.
Now your idenity is completely removed (to public knowledge)

When you deactivate your account, its not deleted. You can reactivate it, so the information and pictures are still in the database. If you want to completely DELETE your account, you'll need to contact Facebook.
To deactivate:
Account --> Bottom of the page --> Deactivate Account.

You can't actually completely remove your account.
Facebook only provides the option to deactivate your account.
