What could my feline have?

It seems to be some sort of intestinal parasite/worm, yet looks like maggots (not like the usual tapeworm). Round worm OTC medications seems to have no effect on it. My other 2 cats don't seem to have it though. Does anyone know what it might be and any possible home treatments?

Sound like tapeworms. The little "maggots" you see that look like little grains of rice are segments/eggs. Hookworms can also look like little maggots. Your pet store should have a treatment (I get mine from a pet med site on the internet) and they do the trick. However, they don't always, so if an OTC wormer doesn't work for your cat (and they frequently don't), like you don't see an improvement in two days, you need to get a med from the vet.

Worms can be insidious, and if left to their own devices, can seriously damage your cat's health and well being.

There is also a condition called myiasis, wherein flies lay eggs around dying skin or the anus (the poop attracts them) and they hatch. http://www.petplace.com/cats/myiasis-maggots-in-ca...

If funds are tight, try an OTC medicine, but in any event I would urge you to at least call your vet (phone calls are free).

To help, I've included a link on worms that infest pets.

Try calling your vet and describing the worms that your cat has. Most vets will let you come in and pick up the medication which for my dogs is between $20-$30. That way you can save yourself the money on wasteful OTC items as well as a vet examination fee.

first, call your vet, bring ithe vet one of tapeworms, so they are sure which parasite it is, get medication for all your cats, deworm all your cats.
