Is this proof that God exists?

James 1:5 clearly states "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

Does that not imply you can ask God if he is real, and he will either answer, or the scriptures are false, and the Christian God is therefore false?

Either he is there and he will tell you if you ask, or he isnt there. Right?

It could be - but keep reading - let him ask in faith, nothing wavering.

It's not as easy as it would appear.

Perhaps it's just a scripture written by some man. For instance, when the book of mormons was written.

Nothing in the bible or any holy book PROVES that god is there and that he even exists. It only speaks with convenience.

Why not use your mind, instead of your "Heart" (Heart cannot think).

Use reason and common sense. and have no fear in what a fairy tale says.

You are right about James 1:5:

"5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him" (James 1:5 NIV)

But the answer to your question is in the next few verses:

"6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does." (James 1:6-8)

Therefore the sincerity of your heart and your faith in Him are the means by which you will receive wisdom and revelation [and everything else] from God.

If you ask for wisdom, I'm sure that he will give to you, but if you are not saved to begin with, he is not going to answer you, God does not go around answering prayers to the unsaved. And if you are saved and you are lacking wisdom in his word and pray to him, I am sure that he will answer your prayer.

Seriously now. You don't really think that a convoluted quote from a translation of an ancient book serves as proof of anything, do you?

  • 1 decade ago

No matter what the quote claims, scripture from the Bible is not proof that the Bible (or the god it speaks about) is real. That's illogical.

He told me He is real. He told me a lot of times before I heard Him, though.

Not only that, but Jesus said that if you REALLY want to know if he taught from God (implying the existence of said God), then "Obey these commands, and you shall know!" (I believe He was talking about the Sermon on the Mount, found in the gospel according to Matthew, beginning in the 5th chapter).

Those who claim that there is no God, but they refuse to take up this challenge, are hypocrites, because it just means they don't REALLY want to know ("My mind's made up! Don't confuse me with the facts!" type of attitude).

Jesus said that the reason people refuse to come to Him was "because their deeds are evil, and they love darkness and hate the light!" (HEY! Jesus said it, not me!)

But the bottom line to all this is that the ONLY reason people don't believe in God is because they don't WANT to believe in God, and giving them honest evidence will not change the heart of a hardened soul, whose mind is set in concrete.
