Ok, so how bad is my cholesterol and trigs? ?

Cholesterol - 230

Triglycerides - 286

HDL Chol - 37

I am 39 years old, had some blood work done and the Dr didnt say anything about it. On the print-out it says "out of range" and gives the values of normal to the right. So is it that bad? Do I just need to change my diet and exercise more? Do I need to take medication?

Also, I am struggling with what foods to eat and what not to eat. For everything I read that says something is good, I read two things that says its bad.

your Cholesterol should be under 200

your Triglycerides should be under 180

    you HDL should be >50

your labs don't look so good. Doctor probably didn't say anything because at your age, most men won't listen anyway.

You need to exercise, an hour daily to get your HDL up.

Cut out all sweets, use Stevia as a sweetener if you must have one.

Eat NO beef, pork lamb or mutton. Eat chicken (skinless) or fish (not shellfish) 3ounces daily, no more. Triglycerides higher than total cholesterol almost invariably leads to type 2 diabetes, and they triglycerides) are produced in response to too much sugar in the blood. So, cut out simple starches and absolutely NO sweets. If you eat pasta, change to whole wheat or whole grain pasta, eat brown rice instead of white and leave bread alone entirely.

Now perhaps you see why men don't usually do what they need to in order to bring their cholesterol under control and keep it there.
