Tim Tebow question...........?

What is the deal with all this talk of moving Tebow to a different position in the NFL? He's a running QB... so what? Michael Vick (no dog comments) and Vince Young are running QBs, and no one (in NFL personnel) has ever suggested either of them going to a different position... but Matt Jones was moved to WR. So Tim Tebow can't throw an 80 yard bomb... so what? How often is that skill going to be called on in the NFL? Steve Young and Donovan McNabb have made pretty good careers for themselves starting out as run-first QBs. If someone like Michael Vick is considered a QB, why not Tebow? It doesn't make sense to me.

Vick was blazing fast & had a cannon arm. VY was the dumbest pick I've seen in awhile. Aside from Vick NFL defenses are fast enough to catch a guy like Tebow, or VY. They are also strong enough to make them pay for running.

Pat white (West Virginia), & Dennis Dixon (Oregon) are both better passers & faster runners, and I guarantee they'll both be converted. Tebow would probably be a better NFL QB than people give him credit for (as long as he learned how to move in the pocket only). Remember concussions ended Steve Youngs career. Antwan Randel El, & a Nebraska QB (I forget his name) have also been converted.

Tebow may be the next John Riggins. The wildcat will be used with him.

Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb were fast runners in College, tore the field up, same with Vince Young. Look at them all now. The only one doing anything is McNabb and thats because he has adjusted.

A running QB in the NFL just can't work. Never has never will. They might get a few yards on the ground each game but to rely on it as a primary part of an offense is not wise.

Tebow just doesn't do any one thing a QB should do in the NFL. He doesn't have a lot of accuracy. He can throw it a long ways down field but it doesn't do any good if its to the wrong team.

He is much slower then those guys listed above too. He wouldn't be able to run anywhere in the NFL. He might make it as a passer but if he does he has a LOT of improving to do.

First off there is lots of talk about moving Vick to another position once he gets out of jail and *if/when* he is allowed back in the league.

Out of all of the QB's who started lets say 28 games or more (two full seasons back in the day of 14 game seasons) in the history of the league only very few were running QB's -- I would say less than 5%.

    Fran Tarkenton

    Donnovan McNabb

    Michael Vick

    Steve Young

    Vince Young

    Randal Cunningham

    Steve McNair

I am sure there are probably others but the point that the list is a very short one is vaild.

There have been far more running QB's who have failed (many did not even get drafted) than those which have succeed. That is the reason for talking about moving him to a different position.

The true reason why he can't and won't be a NFL QB is because the offensive system of Urban Meyer. He is like the Coach K of college football. All his QBs are excellent in college because they play in the right system but take them to the NFL and they aren't use to the speed. Perfect example is Alex Smith, one of Meyer's quys. Alex Smith never took a snap from under the center he was a shotgun guy, same as Tebow. High School this happens a lot to and those kids who play under shotgun their whole career are not good NFL QBs. When is the last time a NFL QB took more than 5 snaps in a game from the shotgun? Never because defense will eat you alive. Being a QB means more than passing, you have to be able to sell the run and you can't do that from the shotgun. Tebow is mobile but he is NCAA mobile. The NFL is much faster and if he tries to run like he did in college, he will get crushed.

How can you honestly compare Tebow to McNabb or Vick. You can compare him the Young because he will have the same career in the NFL. Watching, his team play.

The guy above me has a point, except for the shot gun thing in the NFl. The best teams for the decade use the Shot Gun more than any other formation. The NE Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts are two of them...

Tim Tebow is a star NCAA player, and unless he improves his accuracy, the only way I can see him succeeding in the NFL is through the wildcat formation. But he is not quick enough to be like vick, and the others haven't really made enough of an impact as a dual threat QB

Steve Young and McNabb were not run first. Their teams do better when they pick the right moments to run, not looking to run first.

McNabb throws the ball much better than Tebow, and Steve Young's arm shouldn't even be in the same question. That comparison is rediculous.

Tebow will either have to improve his throwing or change positions to last in the NFL.

Tebow is a different type of running QB like we have never seen before. He is more of a Power running QB which is different than Vick and Young.

McNabb was not ever a run 1st QB in college or pro's. Him and Marvin Harison lit it up at SU

If Tebow can get in an Urban Meyer system, than he can probably survive NFL defenses for at the most 5 years. Teams will prepare to destroy Mr. Tebow...because that is the job they get paid to do.

If Tebow cannot get in an Urban Meyer system, than he will need to prove himself, just like everybody else has done in the NFL that has been successful.

Tebow's physique is the biggest difference, 6' 2 1/2" and 240 lbs. His size and strength make him a sure bet at tight end or fullback. The other "run first" quarterbacks you mentioned had way more speed and a lot less strength.
