Quick question: if Hamas rockets were because of the blockade?
Maybe someone here can explain this to me. The explanation I have frequently heard on this site is that Hamas launched rockets at Israel because of the blockade which caused immense suffering in Gaza.
There is one thing I do not understand though, if the issue is the blockade then why not target it directly?
There are four official crossings between Israel and Gaza, not to mention the border area itself; would not attacking those points put the focus on the blockade? Not to mention the Israeli navy ships off the coast.
Instead the target of Hamas has consistently been Israeli cities that have nothing to do with the blockade…

Inaccurate does not mean random, and cities are fairly large targets. In addition Hamas openly states it is targeting those cities. My question is instead of putting resources building and launching rockets at cities, why not target the closed crossings and those enforcing the blockade?

The cynical Hamas Muslim terrorists repeatedly fire their rockets and mortars from UN schools at Israeli troops stationed nearby. The Hamas terrorists intentionally put Gazan citizens in danger by doing so. The Israeli soldiers responded by firing mortars back, and they scored a direct hit on a rocket launching team just outside a schoolyard.
The dead included members of the Hamas rocket cell, including senior operatives Imad Abu Askhar and Hassan Abu Askhar.
Booby-trapped bombs in the school had triggered secondary explosions that killed additional Palestinians there.
The Hamas regards it as a propaganda victory if their fellow Muslims get killed. And a "military" victory if Jews get killed. It's a win-win situation for the Muslim terrorists.

The blockade has been in place for 19 months... they were a tactic by the Israeli government and military to punish the Palestinians for electing Hezbollah and consequently giving Hamas a power base in Gaza. Israel (with America's encouragement) allowed free elections with all parties within the Palestinian community --something that they had never allowed before. This backfired on Israel because they thought (as Bush and Rice assured them) that the Palestinians would not elect these groups into power.
Yes, Hamas is rocketing the Israel homeland... because Israel backed down from their promise. And yes, they are attacking Israel cities instead of the blockades because attacking the blockade would be futile.
Both sides in this conflict are complete *******... and both sides are targeting civilians.
But I'll be doing the same thing if I was a Palestinian... I don't have the same civil rights of the Israelis and I am not completely soveriegn --my government can not make policies without Israel approving them... and I can not travel freely outside of my territory and I can be detained indefinitely without charges.
And if I were a Israeli, I would probably be bombing the Palestinians if they were launching rockets at my people.... but I would not treat the Palestinians like sub-humans as they have been for at least 30 years... and I would not be surprised that my policies have caused a lot of this hatred.

I heard the rocket attacks were "random" so who knows what Hamas or whoever fires those rockets is targetting
lol @ coasty.. look who's orchestrating the systematic decimation of a people. I don't think its Palestine who have killed 10 Israelis since this conflict started compared to over 600 by Israel (130 children)
edit: well there is no doubt that Hamas' killing of civilians (whether intentional or not) is unacceptable.
However, this is not an excuse for Israel to flout International Law once more and target civilians with its massive arsenal.
I think wrongs have been committed by both sides but if Israel wants to be treated with respect it must stop targetting civilians regardless of whether Hamas "hides" behind them.
There is no debate, if there are possible civilian casualties you just do not attack.

Hamas does not care about the blockade. Hamas only cares about the extermination of all Jews any where in the world.
Edit for Mr B
If you can't cook keep out of the kitchen, Hamas fired 100 rockets in 4 months at Israel during your Cease Fire. When some one does that you expect to piss off the people you are shooting at to the point then come killing you.
For a period of about 18 months many years ago I lived in a place where Mexican gang banger wannabes moved in on either side of me. One group was the Brown Wears the Crown gang and the other was something called Cuchillo (the knife in Spanish) About every 3-4 weeks they would get drunk and shoot at each other with little .25 Spanish Semi-autos with 2 in barrels. All they ever hit was my garden shed and a couple of stray cats we fed. The police were afraid of the gangs and would not answer 911 calls about the incidents. I went to Local and State DA's and nothing got done. Finally one day sister-in-law was over and her kids were in back yard when they started shooting. The kids started screaming and I thought one was hit. I had had enough and Mr Mossberg and I went out into back yard and showed drunk little gun bunnies what to bring to gun fight. Police picked up gangers with buckets and sponges. I lived in that same house for 18 more years and no body shot up the neighborhood again. When I moved the gangs all held a party.
I learned something really basic that day! If fu@king with someone gets you dead then leave them alone. Period Dot End of Story. Israel is trying to minimize civil causalities but Hamas is hiding among them. Sorry about that. but Israel should kill enough Palestinians that if Hamas or anyone else advocates shooting at Israel then his neighbors will kill him first.

Any nation has a right to protect its borders and its people, just because the United States does not --Does not mean that Israel should not.

Hamas was launching unguided rocket into cities in order to kill civilians.
The blockade was put in place to stop suicide bombers.

Those so called "Hamas Rockets" are pretty suspicious.
Let Israel explain where they came from.
