Why do used Jeep Wranglers cost more than Cherokees and Grand Cherokees?
I'm planning a move back to my hometown of Omaha and have been looking for a winter vehicle since my Mustang GT would not do well in the snow, nor do I wish to submit it to that kind of wear and tear.
I have my heart set on a Jeep of some sort, and while I have been browsing down here in Florida I've seen quite a few older, high mileage Cherokees and Grand Cherokees going for very cheap (under $2500) while I haven't had any luck finding Wranglers under $4000 even for the early 1990 models. Given the fact that the Cherokees were more expensive and more "luxurious" when new, I figured the Wranglers would be cheaper now that they are used.
Is this the norm? Am I just shopping at the wrong time or what?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the answers everyone. I just wanted to mention that I don't have any plans of modifying the vehicle for off-road work, I just need something that will get around well in the winter.

I live in Lincoln and own a 1979 CJ7! I bought it for $1500 from a guy who had it sitting on his land with a for sale sign on it! I see jeeps for sale all the time, they are not posted in the paper or anything just sitting in someones driveway or in small car dealerships. You might have better luck just waiting until you move down here! Good Luck.
This might help

Wranglers are more expensive, because they are a very desirable vehicle. Cherokees may have been a more luxurious model when they first came out, but they don't stand the test of time the way a wrangler does. Bottom line is, no matter where you look you'll have to expect to pay more for a wrangler that is in good condition. You should also expect to pay a little extra if it’s a manual transmission. - If you want more info than that ask, my dads owned a used car dealership since as long as I can remember

Your observation is why Cherkees are becoming more popular to modify into off road vehicles. They are quite capable as well and except for the removable top they can pretty much hang with a Wrangler. The Cherokee takes a bit more lift to clear larger tires, but the fenders can be trimmed. A couple Jeep forums to check out..

wranglers were born with the image of being an off-road vehicle, and it is a very capable 4 wheeler. They are all-around more wanted than cherokees. Not only for that, but the removeable top, styling, and the abundance of parts available for them.
Cherokees have the image of being a 4x4 pavement pounder. People dont realize the potential they have, and that they really hold their own on the trails.

I've come across this before. Not on a Jeep, but on another vehicle. Leaves and stuff plugged up the heater core. This stopped the fan from pushing air through the heater. Still felt heat, it just didn't blow. Unless you are very handy and don't mind getting dirty, you'll have to take it somewhere. A backyard guy could do this for you as it's just time consuming. Not a highly technical thing. Try asking on Craigslist for mobile mechs in your neighborhood.

It is as simple as Supply and Demand. Both are very capable rigs, and both can be modded to the extreme.
