Obama voters- Did you know about his fight against BORN ALIVE babies?

When Obama was an Illinois senator, he was the only one, in a house full of pro-choice Democrats, to fight against the Born Alive Act (which would protect a baby by law, if it happened to come out alive).

Obama denied it and the press never looked into it, but it's true and it's right there on his public record.

Did you just believe him,or do you not care? Honest answers only please.

Update:

11 answers so far and still no intellectually honest Liberals. Click the link, see the links to the il.gov website, and know the truth, then tell me whether you just believed him or didn't care. Why is that so hard?

Update 2:

18 answers now and still no intellectual honesty from the left. The website has links to the il.gov official website, with the official document, a link to the federal one as well, so you can see for yourself that they are exactly the same, word for word. Obama lied when he said it was different. Again, take a look, then tell us, did you not know or do you not care?

Update 3:

Wow, people are deleting their answers. We're down to 15 now.

Update 4:

Crafty- Thanks for proving my point. It was actually in the context of SB 92-1093 that Obama made those statements, which was a different bill than the federal one. However, when SB 92-1095, which was the Illinois BAIPA, came up, Obama made it clear that his earlier statements with respect to 92-1093 also pertained to 92-1095. So, nice try. But those of us who read know better.

Still waiting for an intellectually honest Liberal. Did you not know, or do you not care?

Just in case you actually want to know the truth:

This is a link to a secure PDF file, where you can see the entire testimony that relates to the “born alive” bill. I would have copied out just the pages that relate to this but it is a secure file and it wouldn't allow me to do so. The testimony that relates to these Senate Bills - and there were several that day - begins on Page 84 with Senate Bill 1093 and ends on Page 90 with Senate Bill 1095, all of which were related to abortion. http://www.ilga.gov/senate/transcripts/strans92/ST...

The Republicans controlled the Illinois Senate in 2001. Their main goal was to overturn Roe v Wade, which was a big agenda for GWB that year. They repeatedly introduced legislation in attempt to ban abortion entirely. Frankly, I think Obama had major courage to even address this issue, and I completely agree with EVERYTHING he said about the unconstitutionality of these Bills. He didn't oppose giving infants medical assistance. He opposed forcing physicians to do so. Physicians have always had the right to provide care at their own discretion. This bill left it open that doctors could be prosecuted. There were at least 18 other Senators who it would appear were against it, and he was the only one to speak. Please read what he said carefully. He did not vote against this Bill, he voted Present. The actual vote on this one Bill was 34 - Aye, 6 - Nay, 12 - Present. I know there's also controversy about his voting Present on many Bills, the reality is that it has long been the tradition in the Illinois Senate that Republican and Democrat Senators alike voted Present when it came to Bills they felt were unconstitutional. In any event, it is NOT TRUE that he signed AGAINST the Bill. He simply did not vote.

The Federal bill that was ultimately passed didn't pass unanimously in the Senate until AFTER it had been reworded drastically in the House to eliminate the very things that Obama objected to.

This lie made the rounds of Conservative websites when James Dobson said on Fox News that he voted against it and was some kind of hideous baby killer. Dobson is a real disappointment to me. When I was a young mother, his books were helpful, but he has become a religious nutcase. I find it ironic that the people who spread this and many other lies and rumors about Obama seem to be just fine with lying, and then perpetuating the lies even after they have been proven to be lies. That isn’t very Christian to me. This is what Dobson said on Fox.

IF you have read my links, I hope you have a better understanding now and will stop posting lies.

Here's a bit of honesty for you.

No babies are born alive if they are aborted in the first three months.

They are not able to breathe they have lungs that are far too immature to take even one breath.

In the second trimester they don't stand much of a chance then either, the actions of an abortion terminate whatever life processes are going on, and special drug intervention before delivery is necessary for even a fleeting possibility of being able to survive on its own. Obviously you aren't going to be taking those drugs if you want to abort.

From seven to nine months, if you follow the idea that the fetal brains are removed before delivery you can plainly see that no babies are going to be born alive.

So, you are believing something that can't happen.

Now, do I care, yes, I care that people are believing things that aren't able to happen even by their own words. You can't have dismembered and debrained fetuses that are in any way born alive.

Now, it sometimes happens in spontaneous abortions, which is the technical name for miscarriages, that a very premature baby is born.

That isn't what they are talking about.

I'm sorry you would rather be played than understand that intellectually honesty precludes any such viability and that would mean that Obama, and the rest of the Illinois senate had been asked by antichoice groups to take a stand on a condition that cannot exist, thereby wasting its time.

The sole purpose of which is to incite the emotions rather than the facts.

You can remain antichoice without having to be irrational.

But asking others to be irrational isn't right.

Yes, I knew that he fought against a bill that was redundant to others pre-existing laws. The bill he opposed would not have added a single protection over and above the laws that were in place in Ill.. What it would have done was reinforced the case of outlawing abortion and he saw through that. Although everything you stated is true, it falls short of the whole truth and therefore is deceptive by omission.

I already knew about it. If you look it up on factcheck, you will see it is true that he fought against the state version of the act. I don't know if the site you listed has an exaggerated version or not, but the basic claim is true.

Here is the factcheck.org article. http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/obama_and_...

This kind of exposes the bias of the site. They take the most exaggerated claim (that Obama supports infanticide) so they can more easily dispute it. But even then, it isn't that easy to dismiss the claim. So they dance around it, emphasizing wording & Obama's claims about his motives. But they never deny he opposed the bill.

He didn't fight against the act -- there was already a law on the books to keep born alive babies alive. He voted against a particular bill because it was worded in a way which would have opened the door to the reversal of Roe v. Wade in Illinois.

Yes I know and Yes I care. It was only a small part of a bill he voted against. He agreed with that part but not the rest and so he had to vote no.

Obama is a liberal. Of course they have no respect for life. Obama was THE ONLY senator that voted against the Born Alive Act. He is a heartless narcissist.

yeah, the real disgusting aspect is Obama loves the 30 second soundbites like "the least of my brothers blah blah blah" crap. But come on libs, what can be more innocent than a child born alive from a botched abortion? Barry's position is to let it die....hmmm, whatever happended to the least of my brothers?

  • 1 decade ago

yes i knew this and I also heard Obama speak to it , and it was not his lack of consideration for the life of the child but his consideration FOR the life of the mother as well as the possibility of damaged life for the child that made him lean this way . i recommend that people gain a greater understanding of the cruelty that comes to a child who may live through an abortion. please take time to understand before criticizing.
