exercise question on heart rate?

im a male, age 27, former athlete but have sat on my bum for 4 years. ive recently joined a gym and have been spending most of my time on cardio, trying to get myself back into shape, slowly and safely. my question is about my heart rate. is it ok for me to be maintaining a heart rate of 162? or should i be down in the 150's? im asking because lately ive been having these "heart rush" feelings that seem to only come around while eating.

162 doesn't sound too bad ... how is your resting heart-rate in comparison?

you might be experiencing mild heart-burn/acid-reflux or a blood-sugar spike if it only happens when you are eating ...

I have experienced both and am active, but I tend to have heart-burn/reflux worse when I am pushing myself really hard at the gym after a sedentary period ... it usually calms down after a month or so of working out again ... although, now that I have hit my 30's, I tend to have reflux a lot more than when I was younger (in fact, never when I was younger) ...

Your maximum target heart rate is 173. If you think your heart rate is too high, the best suggestion I can give you is to schedule a visit with your doctor.
