Replace dual core with quad core on Windows XP SP3?

I have checked my motherboard and bios. My fairly new motherboard can indeed accept a quad core processor.

But what I was wondering is would I have to reinstall the OS (XP Service Pack 3) for it to recognize the 4 cores? Are there any other problems to be on the lookout for if I swap out a dual core for a quad core processor?

No software changes needed. Windows will not even notice.

Just make sure the heatsink is good enough.

If heatsink supplied with new CPU then fine.

Otherwise you need to check it can handle the new CPU which might run hotter having 4 cores.
