muzzle loader breach plug check details please?
i have a CVA Hunter Magnum and need to replace the breech plug. Will another design replace what i have or do i have to use the slotted plug? Thats why it needs replacing now the slot is messed up and almost impossible to remove. I was wondering if i could use the hex head type and still get the same ignition and not be too long. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
i should add that this is an inline with a 209 primer plug

Yes, a hex head plug would work, as long as it has the same threads, hole diameter, and depth as the original. The slot is only there for removal with a flat bladed screwdriver.

replacement with another type provided they are dimensionally the same is not a problem.
i have to ask though how / why did the original get chewed up .
using a carpenter's screw driver as opposed to a hollow ground gunsmithing type that fits properly will mess up the slot.
i would also make sure to use the proper type of ant-seize lubricant on the threads so as to allow for easy removal or you will have the same problem no matter what type breech plug you install.
