What is this 2nd death talked about in Revelation 20:14?

I asked a question earlier to JW's about why Jesus died if not to free us from death i.e. eternal torment. Many stated that death was not the same as eternal torment, so I was wondering if maybe someone could help me understand better Rev. 20:14 which states:

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

And also, JW's if there is no eternal punishment then why preach to people?

That would be spiritual death. Those that dont believe or that have not repented of their sins will die the second death and be cast to the lake of fire

    Rev 20:14

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

We have 2 bodies. A physical body and a spiritual body. They are inside a "container" so to speak, which is our "soul".

At the 1st death, our physical body dies, which releases our spiritual body. (like planting a seed, which dies, and the embryo gives birth to a new plant.

Notice in Rev. 20:11-12 this is referring to the great White Throne judgement of God the Father.

This is the final judgement after the millenium - either one's name is in the Book of Life or it is not.

Those whose names are not included, (Rev 20:13-15) will be cast into the lake of fire.

This is the 2nd death, the death of the spiritual body.

Now there would be no more bodies left, would there?

So this includes the death of the soul (the container, so to speak)

    There would be no memory of those anymore, like they had never lived as read in Rev 21:4 = no more death, sorrow, crying, pain;

Why? for the former things are passed away. No more evil, it will be gone.

Think of it as a prison for the most awful criminals. Except, there will be no parole. The lake of fire is referred to a place where souls will experience eternal pain and anguish either spiritually or subconsciously; for their doings (possibly the feeling of regret...). Death affects the human flesh when it dies. The second death is only if your thrown out of heaven and put in the lake of fire. This won't happen until God judges all His creation after the great tribulations when Jesus comes back and reigns as king of KINGS.

For starters- The God of the Bible is Not into Burning people for all time. That idea was rampant in the day of the Israelites when they crossed paths with the Pagan Nations. In fact in expressing his abhorrence of this practice, God said through his prophet Jeremiah regarding the sons of Judah: “They have set their disgusting things in the house upon which my name has been called, in order to defile it. And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, in order to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, a thing that I had not commanded and that had not come up into my heart.”—Jeremiah 7:30, 31.

Therefore the Idea that God is going to " COPY" the art of torture from Pagan gods is ridiculous. It thus has to mean something else- but what?

The lake of fire” into which death, Hades, the symbolic “wild beast” and “the false prophet,” Satan, his demons, and the persistent practicers of wickedness on earth are cast is shown to mean “the second death.” (Re 20:10, 14, 15; 21:8; Mt 25:41) Initially death resulted from and was passed on to mankind as a result of Adam’s transgression; hence “the second death” must be distinct from this inherited death. It is evident from the cited texts that there is no release possible from “the second death.”

I'm no theologian, but I would interpret it as meaning after the "rapture" and everyone is judged. Then those who are found guilty of refusing God/Christ are cast into the lake of fire. And those people would include people who had already died and were in hell because we're all to be judged at that same time. I think... LOL Revelation is an interesting and cryptic book.

John describes a universal judgment on the dead, great and small. These dead must be "the rest of the dead" who did not come alive to reign with Christ in "the first resurrection." Consequently they are not "blessed and holy" nor immune to "the second death". After books are opened, and above all the book of life, the dead are judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. As to the distinction between the plural books, or "scrolls," not mentioned before in the Revelation and the singular "book of life". The former contain the record of . . . deeds, whether good or bad, which form the ground for judgment; the latter contains the list of those destined for life.

Well, as a minister, the second death is like the second time satan will be casted into the lake of fire, because he is there for 1 thousand years then after that he is once again casted in for all eternity

Overcomes his previous nature. A Christian has a twin nature. The previous guy or flesh it rather is sinful and the recent creature it rather is what the Holy Spirit begets in us--that's what would be born or raised spirit. One or the different nature has to win. If the previous guy wins, then we flow into 2d dying. The previous guy should be completely in subjection to the recent creature, as that's what has a connection to God. If we triumph over the international, the flesh and the devil then we are raised incorruptible and are given the divine nature like God--and could never could desire to be stricken suitable to the 2d dying. this could properly be a promise to the Church. no longer in basic terms the Smyrna era of the Gospel Age, inspite of the incontrovertible fact that it replace into an encouragement for them as they have been residing in an rather undesirable time under Pagan Rome and the Diocletian persecution (10 days--10 years)

I believe that this is the death of death itself. The lake of fire to me is a people who know how to return good for evil "by doing this ye shall cast coals of fire upon their foreheads". I think that the end of hell and death is going to eventually end with us overcoming them with the goodness of God.

You have physical death, and then if you're judged to hell, you have the second death.

The first is actual. The second is figurative, because after that, death and hell will no longer be a factor in the existence of any of those who remain.
