Ok, so no to webs.com, the free version, but...?
I need a website that can play clips of multiple songs that I will be recording, maybe show a few pictures, and have a place that I can show what previous clients have said about my services as a violinist. What would something like that cost for a year? I have no computer 'wisdom' and I would not be able to design the website unless it had templates like blogger.com, that I can handle. :D

The site itself (hosting) should run around $10/month - maybe more, depending on how large the clips are and how many downloads/month you get. The more data is transferred, the more the site costs.
A domain name (violinduchess.com, or whatever you want - that one happens to be available) is around $10/year, depending on the tld (the stuff to the right of the last dot - .com, .us, .info, etc. - the top level domain)
(You may want to buy the domain name - and maybe violinduchess.net and domainduchess.org while you're at it - while they're available, even if you won't have a site up for months. Go to http://godaddy.com/ if you want to buy any names. [You're actually buying them from ICANN - GoDaddy is just the 'retailer', but a Hershey bar is a HJershey bar].)
The expensive part is having someone develop the site for you and teach you how to run it - but that's a one-time fee, so once you pay it, you're free of it. That could run to a few thousand dollars, though, depending on exactly what you want. (Even more for really fancy stuff.) Consider it a one-time cost of doing business - and it's deductible as such. So is the few dollars you spend on the site every year. (You can probably get someone on rent-a-coder, or a similar site, who will bid $100 for the job - and you can get me to play the violin for that money. And I'll play the violin as well as they'll develop your site. [I have a tin ear.])

On http://webdesign.1sta.com/ you can easily choose a good free host/webbuilder with NO ads on your page, that allows you to implement e.g. the Imeem mp3 player, you not need to invest any money at all.
If you are willing to pay: for just 1,45 USD per month you get your own domain on one.com, rewarded as being the best AND cheapest hostingprovider and a great webbuilder and many many extras: one.com
