A thumb up to me is a sign of encouragement.?

But a down thumb to me is as rude as the rude answer itself.

Do you agree? Why?

You learn to accept the thumbs down and laugh. Better to laugh than cry about what we can't change...hummmm, I need to practice this more often.

Thumbs up! Instant validation and great for the human spirit.

    Cool question.

    Peace.

    Nope I don't.

    Why?

Thumbs up and down are a means of saying "I agree with what you just said" or "I disagree", that was the sole purpose of the system.

I guess you think of it along the lines of "if you have nothing good to say don't say it at all?" But then that would beg the question "who are you to say what is good and what isn't"

Personally thumbs up or down doesn't matter to me as long as I get to voice my opinion on the question asked.

Do I use the thumbs up thumbs down system? Yes.

I rarely give thumbs up and I don't thumbs down a person.

When I give a thumbs up it means that the answer pertains to the question, doesn't degrade ANYONE, nor insults, is informative with sources cited (if applicable).

The only time I would thumbs down a person is when their answer is for the lack of a better word "filthy". Degrading, insulting, troll-like, hatefilled etc.

Sometimes a thumbs down can be rude- but I think of it this way. I am a Christian and I know that not all people will agree with the answers I give. So when I get a thumbs down, I just realize that they are disagreeing with me- that does not mean that my question or answer was bad. When I get a thumbs up, it can be encouraging.

Thumbs up is moving heavenward, thumbs down is a little rest before the journey to heaven! Hence, no need to worry in either case. Enjoy.

    No I don't.

A thumbs up or down is simply the impression of the reader of the validity of the answer.

If a person disagrees with your answer, you may receive a thumbs down.

There is not usually a malicious intent, simply a verdict on the worthiness of your answer

  • A thumb up is a sign of support. A thumb down is a sign of non-support, that the thumb downer does not like/support/appreciate your view point.

Its not rude. Its like criticism, and criticism is very important. Without both thumbs down and thumbs up, I won't be able to understand how people feels about my view points, and I can't work on improving them.

Improving your ideas and view points relates to improving yourself as a whole.

At times it is more than that!

Sometimes a thumb up means a particular friend has read my answer...kind of signing a visitor's register. LOL.

Similarly, I've noticed over a period of time a person's dislike towards me. That person's involuntary reaction seems to thumb me down immediately, even if my answer is nothing ruder than that 'The Sun rises in the East'...

Thumbing down is almost as fun as starring a question and then after several seconds, removing the star.

Yeah, I can see it as rude, or I can see it as someone disagrees with me and can't rightly comment my own comment so they give the old thumbs down.
