Suicidal atheist and God.?

If George is a suicidal atheist, how can he be helped and/or should he be helped by God or anyone else? George feels that he has done all he was here to do. Anything else just seems like passing time before the inevitable conlusion. George never has and never will believe in God. In what way is this entire question/situation/thought not entirely irrelevent?

Update:

Thanks for all the thoughtful answers. I think George feels better now. I Think George will work on a list of things to do in this life. I'm sure he can think of a few years worth if he realy tries. Thank you!

Hi, George. There's many reasons to live. Being an atheist has nothing to do with being depressed, necessarily. I'm an atheist and I'm happy all the time. We only get one life so there's no point in wasting it by being sad all of the time.

    Source(s): Hope this helped, George.

He should be helped in the same was as anyone else.

The fear of god isn't going to help. Actually the belief in an afterlife would probably make him off himself faster. Especially when you consider that the idea that suicide makes you got hell was added to the bible more recently to stop all the suicidal Christians.

I'd reach out to George, whether I knew him or not.

Just keep him talking, keep him going on for another day, like Scheherezade in "The Thousand and One Nights". It might be that he'll stumble upon whatever it is he feels compelled to do next, while he's just counting out time to oblivion.

  • George needs a doctor or counselor. Life and its meaning has nothing to do with any gods unless you have nothing better to assign them to.

  • George should seek psychiatric help,

not believing in god is irrelevant to his problems.

Why would an atheist commit suicide for this reason? An atheist would know that this world is the only shot at life we have and would want to squeeze as much time out of it as possible. If they were to commit suicide it would be unlikley to be because of their atheism.

George should know that whether he believes or not, God is his Father and will forgive him.

  • How old is George and what is his present medical condition?
