    Try some of these:

    Fantasy:

Neil Gaiman is an amazing author! Any of his books are good. Try Neverwhere, Stardust, or Coraline.

Any books by Scott Westerfeld or Neal Shusterman are really good too.

Any books by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes are amazing! There is In The Forest of The Night, Demon In My View, Shattered Mirror, Midnight Predator. And then there is the The Kiesha'ra series: Hawksong, Snakecharm, Falcondance, Wolfcry and Wyverhail.

Abarat by Clive Barker. Make sure you get the hardcover version though!!! If you liked the first one be sure to check out the next book in the series Abarat: Days of Magic, Nights of War.

Daughters of Destiny series: Keeper of the Winds, Keeper of the Waters, Keeper of the Flames and Keeper of the Earth by Jenna Solitaire.

His Dark Materials trilogy (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass) by Philip Pullman

    Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld

Peeps and The Last Days by Scott Westerfeld

The Lovely Bones....It is a great book, I am the mother of teens and I loved it as did my sister who is 8 years older than I am :)

If you haven't read it yet the Twilight series is actually a great series. Stefanie Myers is a wonderful author and her books are so smoothly written and are so easy to get into. She has written her first adult orientated book called The Host but I believe teens would like it too. It is about aliens (I would never have even picked it up but I already knew how good of a writer she is so I took the chance and read it although, like you, I do not like that kind of books. It was one of the best love stories I have read and wasn't gross or scary or anything.

There is also another series of four books that are pretty good. I can't remember the author but the books are called Pretties, Uglies and Specials.....I can't remember the last one.

The Pretty Little Liars series was one that my girls enjoyed too.

Just go to the teen section of your library and you should find some books that you really enjoy. Some of my girls' favorite books are ones they just grabbed off the shelf, without reading the back cover. I have found a lot books that I love this way too. I just go to the section of the kind of book I want to read and just close my eyes and pick one. Some of them have not been very good but a lot of them have been great and I never would have read them if I hadn't have picked them like this. My kids agree with me and they do this with at least one book every time we go to the library.

My oldest daughters favorite book is called The Lullaby. Again, I can't remember the author but you should be able to find it in the teen section at the library. Good luck finding something and happy reading :)

For a young adult/teen Meg Cabot's young adult books. She is the best author. Also best selling. She wrote tons of books including the Princess Diaries (Movies based on her books), Mediator (upcoming movie), 1-800-Missing (TV show based on her books), All-American Girl (up coming movie), Jinx, Airhead and more. She has adult books too, so you can grow with her.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

It was really well written and a great topic/plot. One of the best books I've read this year.

  • My wife is partial to the Mary Higgins Clark murder mysteries. Gone with the Wind too. The Wind Blows Backwards and Weeping Willow I've been told were both good.
