Gas Furnace Pilot Light issue.?

The pilot light on my gas furnace keeps going out when the heating cycle is over. I have watched very carefully what happens. The burner shuts down and the pilot light is still burning, the thermal coupler is glowing orange. Then I hear a click and the pilot light goes out. This occurs anywhere from 10 seconds to 3 minutes after the the heat cycle completes. It occurs whether the shutdown is from the thermostat, gas valve, or the breaker

The thermal couple and pilot light was replaced within the last 2 weeks .Also the gas valve was replace 10 months ago.

hmmmm.....I was going to suggest that you change the gas valve...that is what we had to do..but you already did that. Strange....

Maybe you have a ghost that is trying to save you some money by shutting it off! :)))

Are you fixing this yourself? If you are it might be time to call in someone else and see if what you did is ok. Maybe their is some default with the parts that were replaced.????

The flame from the pilot provides the heat for the thermocouple to create enough electricity to hold open the solenoid in the gas line supplying the pilot. It shouldn't matter if it's before or after the heating cycle.

It is possible that your thermocouple is getting too hot. It shouldn't be glowing orange. Are you sure you have a standing pilot furnace?

does the new gas valve have two small male electrical terminals just below where the thermocouple lead screws into the gas valve?? if so, are there wires connected to them, leading to a ceramic insulated fuse link,or other, safety?? or is there a jumper wire connecting the two terminals?...light the pilot..then wiggle the two connecters, does pilot go out?,if so,connections may be loose there,,the 25 millivolts or so that the thermocouple produces has to go through those connections,,doesnt take much to interupt the 25 millivolts and cause pilot to go out.....if the 2 terminals have wires going to a fuse link the connections could be loose at the fuse link,or the fuse link could be weak....usually the fuse link is a SECONDARY high temp limit safety,, ok to bypass for temporary service but dont leave it that way.....also make sure thermocouple lead is screwed tight into the valve,,but dont over do it.......dan

possible that you got a bad thermal coupler or a bad control valve, also check the gas regulator.
