If Zetterberg became a free agent.....?

What team would offer him the biggest contract and for how much?

Which team would he be the best fit with?

Which team would he sign with?

Would his production drop off in his new teams system?

Hard to say which team.....I'd venture a guess and say Vancouver, they seem to like the Euros and have cap space available. Since they originally offered Sundin 2 years and 20 Million, I would assume they would give him the max or close to it.....along the lines of 6 years/60 Million.

Obviously he is a good fit with Detroit....but assuming you are excluding them, I'd say the Canucks are a good fit.

    Vancouver

I don't think that is neccessarily the case....it's very possible it could increase according to what they could give him for teammates....alot of teams would use Zetterberg more than what Detroit does because Detroit tends to roll their lines a little more. I can think of years where Detroit had successful teams....like the late 90's.......and they would not have anyone in the top 10-15 in the scoring races.....I know that was back in the days of Scotty Bowman BUT guys like Datsyuk and Zetterberg only play 19-20 minutes per game.....2-3 minutes less than most superstars like Crosby, Ovechkin, Nash, Malkin, Iginla........I know a couple minutes per game doesn't sound like alot but it adds up over a season so there could be a little more production.

Detroit has a successful PP so it is probably likely his numbers would decrease a little.........I guess it depends on the team he went to.......Pitt/Wash........he gets MORE production. Minnesota (another destination that would be possible) and he gets less.

Source(s): Defenders of the Cup......the Sedins and Sundin are ALL UFA's at season's end...........lotsa a cap room but it's no guarantee they are there.

Zetterbeg's age, talent and "z" in his last name make him a perfect fit for the Rangers. A lot of spry talent that works well together with exactly his kind of selfless play.

Zett's stats this year are a little disappointing some could say, but he makes plays around him happen.

  • "If" that were to happen (as I see it, it won't, regardless), it is too early to tell who would offer the most money.

As far as fit, with his skill level, he would make a few teams instant contenders and others only a player away. IMO I would say Vancouver because of the Twins and Sundin mainly, that Euro influence.

I think there might be a slight drop in numbers but not too much.

Bob, I realize the situation but feel that something would be done to keep the core together.

Don't worry, the Wings are going to resign Z long-term, and Hossa will be a free agent.

Whoever said Penguins is crazy, have you seen their cap numbers for next year?

Edmonton would offer him $10 million per season just like they did with Dustin Penner.
