Why does everyone call Obama...?

black/African American? He is technically Mullato. He is mixed. He is just as much black as he is white. I am very glad and excited we have finally taken this step and made history as adding the first mixed American President but... he is not just black. Why is it when someone is mixed with black and white...they always call them black? Why don't they call them white? Just a thought...

Update:

That is interesting. I did not know his father had Arab in him. I knew his father was a muslim. I understand people call him "black" because he looks black...but I am not buying that. Many Asians and Arabs skin looks very dark and we do not call them black. Obama doesn't even look African American to me. I don't know what my point is. I was just interested in what others thought.

Mullato is an anachronistic and offensive term. He is sometimes referred to as mixed race, though of course most Americans are some mis of ethnicities at this point. So I don't think that's very descriptive. His father was an African, so it seems fair to describe him as having African American heritage. Black and white are catch-all terms describing nothing more than skin pigment, and Obama's is clearly on the black end of the spectrum.

He would be considered an Arab/American. His father was from Kenya. He is called black because he looks black.

the real travisty here is you are interested in a man for his color and making history, who cares about his racial background, isn't it more important to see what he'll do,if he fails will you still be proud we elected him to make history,as for your question, most folks see things as black and white, just how we are here

if he's mixed then he's not white either so you can't call him white. aren't mullatos part cajun?

i think you should more concerned with his goals for our country than worrying about what ethnicity he is.
