What is the reason behind why people pray?

Doesn't god already know everything that will happen and everything you already want? He is all knowing right? So why pray when he already knows you want it?

Update:

And does it move faster than light?

I guess it is hard for some to realize that God wants to have a two way relationship with us. He loves us and loves when we spend time with Him. Imangine that the God of the universe loves you like that?

When a parent feeds and clothes and gives good gifts from to his or her children, they still like to hear a "thank you", not silence because they know they are thankful. That would be true gratitude. Also, in His Presence is fullness of Joy. It is good to be cast our cares on Him, for our own mental health. You should try it for 30 days straight, kneel and pray honestly, and you will be transformed, I guarantee it.

It is human nature to ask for what you want. Many people believe that praying is simply a form of meditation or of positive thinking. Most people like to feel they have some input in their lives. Making a 'formal request' through prayer at least helps them to cope with whatever they are praying about.

I pray to hear in my heart what God wants from me and to ask forgiveness and for the problem I might be going threw. When you pray it helps take away the pain and problems cause you know God is there to help you with what you ask for his help in. If you don't pray and ask for Gods help you won't get it.

Jesus told people to pray and he told people what to pray for because it is Jesus who will decide whether you enter into the kingdom of Heaven. Jesus said when you pray pray like this, My father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, etc. God is all knowing but every person that exists was not created by God, they were created by their father Satan. We must pray so that Jesus can hear us, that way he knows who we are when judgment day comes. Jesus needs to know you want Gods will to be done, anything else will not be heard. Every individual plays his part God designed it that way. ;-)

I pray because God is calling me to. He knows what I will say, but He wants to relate to me, to fellowship with me, to speak to me, He has things to tell me. I pray for others too, because God wants us to help each other, and build reward in Heaven.

    God calls me to pray.

    He listens.

Sometimes I dont know what to pray for so the Holy Spirit tells me.

It is a 3 part process.

I pray to the lord, because it is an opportunity for me to talk to him and I have also witnessed the power of prayer many times, also we should always thank him for the things he has given us.

It's a last resort. People feel safer when they think that someone is listening to them and might just help them in their time of need. For fun, next time that happens try to pray to something else, like the sun or the tv. I bet that overtime, the sun and tv will answer as many prayers as the invisible man does.

We pray because even though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Jesus Christ.

We also pray because we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Jesus told us to pray. its in the Bible. God does know, but he wants us to talk to him and have a relationship with him. the more you pray and read your Bible the more you will feel closer to God and know when he is talking to you.
