Suggestions on a plot.?

I just had a brilliant idea for a plot for my short story. If you've heard it before, sorry, but I just thought of it myself.

Its pretty much a romance story. The whole story is about these 2 lovers having a great time, I explain them on a date or something. But the twist is, after every date when they say 'bye', they say something like "we've only got 5 more days". And then I'd tell about the next day, in which they would say "we've only got 4 more days" and so on like that, until you get to the last day. And in some way (I'm not sure yet, that's why Im asking you) the reader finds out that one of them dies from cancer (or something like that, again, I'm looking for suggestions)

Hopefully I explained this idea well enough, do you get it?

Any ideas how to make it better, this is a pretty vague idea.

I think this could be made even better if instead of death or a wedding, the one persoon has to leave forever, and the other has to decide whether to follow him or not. I the five ensuing days, they mull over everything, the entire backstory is revealed, and the second character has to decide in five days. If it's short, great. If you want to make it longer, take everything into consideration for the characters- all their emotions, fears, etc, and provide a solution.

well i had sort of a different kind of thought maybe instead of death they could start something new like he can ask her to marry him in before they start saying only got 5 days ect. and it could be like 5 days until they get married well thats just my idea but go with your instincts
