Do cashiers judge customers on what they buy?
I always wonder, say if you go in walgreens, cvs, walmart etc. If you had like 20 candy bars, or just plain junk do they judge you, Or more of like tampons or pads, i was just curious about that.
Or do you ever feel your gonna get judge if you buy certain things?
that mustard thing is pretty weird, to be honest, and every other thursday, always at 7am. i would wonder.
its not that i would care, it just curiosity i guess as one person said.

I was a cashier in a grocery store in high school, and a home improvement store in college. I honestly never cared much what people bought.
I think they only time I balked was when an elderly couple bought french tickler condoms...but I was 16, and come on, I think that was a normal reaction lol.
When I was younger I used to get nervous when I bought certain things, like condoms or tampons, but as I got older I realized that everybody buys these things (almost everyone), so there's no need to be embarrassed. And whats more, even if the cashier did think badly of you, how would you know or why would you care, who are they to you?

I'm sure some do but probably not most. Maybe a curiousity more than judging for some.
I'll admit I've been curious when I'm shopping and someone has a huge amount of one thing in their cart. I always wonder what they need so much of that one thing for.
Why in the world would they judge you for buying tampons or pads? They are kind of a necessity in life. Shouldn't be judged any more than if you bought milk.
Carolyn. Why so much mustard? Again just curious.

From a previous cashier: if you buy normal things (i.e. tampons, junk food, etc) you won't be judged. It's the weird combinations of things that sometimes leads to being judged.
Economy sized packs of mentos and a couple two liters of pop will definitely get a snicker and a few smart cracks after you leave (in case you don't know, those ingredients are explosive together). A man leaving with skintimate shave gel, control tops, maxim, and wine coolers just may get a few jokes, too.

The answer is Yes! We judge you! Its life get use to it... I work at a local grocery store in the Customer Service dept. I SEE ALOT of things that make you sit back and wonder hmmmm.... seriously?!? lol And I'm sure that when I am a customer it happens to me too! So lets all run down to our local grocery store and give the cashiers something to talk about in their breakroom!!! (Like buying condoms and bananas) hahaha

Most don't have the time to think about it. Pretty quickly things become just numbers. Now, if you were to buy 20 cases of condoms or something like that, they may think about it. Most people know that you are not buying that much stuff for one person to eat at one time.
Some places may be slow enough, but seriously, they generally don't really care.

This is truly a great question. I often think about this as I have to buy 6 bottles of mustard every other Thursday morning at 7AM.

I know from experience that if you buy something "off the wall" or a combination of things that "makes you appear odd", then yeah, they will judge you. They might not say anything to your face, but they will talk to someone about you.
However, if you're a female and your buying tampons, then I wouldn't worry about it. It's normal.

There is a young male (18..?) who works at the CVS I shop at & he always gets red & fidgety when you buy "girlie" things like tampons or lube. It's kind of funny actually because I'm never shy or embarrassed so I think it makes it worse for him!

I am not sure if they judge or not, but, me and my friends have a joke going where we pick three random things and decide who are the best. like what would people think if you bought a shovel, a tube of KY, and a case of beer. Or just three things that have nothing to do with the other.

Cashiers job is to ring up the items. I believe they have no interest in what you purchase. My husband will go to a store & buy me very personal things. He is not worried about any-ones thoughts. I used to be but as you get older, you realize that you can't do a thing about someone else's thoughts on whats in your basket.
It's a beautiful day, let's get out & enjoy it.------
