Global Warming alarmists: Why would 650 climatologists say Man made global warming is a myth?

At December's U.N. Global Warming conference in Poznan, Poland, 650 of the world's top climatologists stood up and said "man-made global warming is a media generated myth without basis".

Said climatologist Dr. David Gee, Chairman of the International Geological Congress, "For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming?"

Update:

the 650 are just the climatologists, thre are 31000 scientists who debunk global warming as a politically motvated myth..

Update 3:

Diane, nope, not a Repubilcan, neither is the head of the European Union... but he holds many of the same views I do i this particular subject. I am actually an environmentalist of the the rational kind. I like Ralph Nader actually.

You have absolutely no evidence that 650 climatologists said anything.

Yes it has become a religion and Al Gore is the pope of the cult.Think of how much money certain groups will make off of the hype.Think of all that government money going to "research".Besides there is only so much you can do ,after all whoever controls the weather controls the world.Fear is the best political motivator. Climate change is part of the nature of the planet.Common sense is to have clean energy but until there is a buck in it all that happens is talk, talk and more talk.Government regulations, fines and penalties(gotta get that bailout money somewhere) We certainly need clean air and water .I am the original recycler and I don't waste energy just like many other people.I use energy and don't go for the "guilt" trip of doing so. I have a problem with Gore the guru who flies around a fuel guzzling jet.So does Queen Pelosi who opted for a bigger one to fly back and forth to California.Remember her saying she wants to save the planet, yeah she flies we walk.We can all start by using the new energy saving light bulbs. Oh I forgot they are the ones with mercury in them.Oh,well seems like a good idea at the time. I guess you all heard that some genius politician wanted to tax cow farmers for any that own more than 100 for emitting "methane gas" yeah it's true. Can we bottle it instead?Or on second thought send some from the bull to that politician as he knows the B.S. when he sees or smells it.

I read somewhere else that only about 200 people who signed that petition were actually climate researchers.

    http://www.sourcewatch.org/wiki.phtml?title=Oregon...

"Scientific American took a random sample of 30 of the 1,400 signatories claiming to hold a Ph.D. in a climate-related science. Of the 26 we were able to identify in various databases, 11 said they still agreed with the petition—one was an active climate researcher, two others had relevant expertise, and eight signed based on an informal evaluation. Six said they would not sign the petition today, three did not remember any such petition, one had died, and five did not answer repeated messages."

UPDATE: I have not been able to find any incident where 650 scientists "stood up" at the UN and said that "man-made global warming is a media generated myth..." etc.

However, I just stumbled across the story of how Jim Inhoffe, US Senator, compiled a list of 650 people whom *he and a few others personally believe* are skeptical about climate change.

    http://greenfyre.wordpress.com/2008/12/14/inhofes-...

As you can see in the blog, entry, there's a sub-list of experts on that list who feel that their views were misrepresented. It's also been said that other people on the list had their qualifications exaggerated ......

    http://rabett.blogspot.com/2008/12/he-has-another-...

This list was released by Inhoffe during the 2008 December UN Global Warming converence.

It does not matter whether you believe in global warming or not. We are going to run out of fossil fuels and then what are you going to use for energy and as chemical feedstock to make everything from plastics to medicines. The cleaner fuels such as oil and gas will go first and then we will be forced back to coal, which causes atmospheric pollution and acid rain. So don't use your arguments to justify a hugely energy-intensive way of living, cos I won't believe you.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the sun was continuing to slowly heat up rather than cool down, but this had absolutely nothing at all to do with global warming, among other things, huh?

Because these are the scientists that tried to apply scientific method testing to the AgW hypotheses and every time they tested it by hundreds of methods it failed miserably. AGW or GCC is not testable and so is not valid unless you uses hansen's data and program.

First look at your sources. The Center For Individual Freedom is a conservative free market think tank. The CFIF receives funding from the Carthage Foundation of which Richard Mellon Scaife is the chairman. The Scaife family made a large portion of their fortune from their holdings in the Shell Corporation.

The Petition Project was initited by the Oregon Institue of Science and Medicine. Their website lists eight faculty - two of these are dead and two are the sons of the founder Arthur Robinson. Their campus - don't have one. Their students - don't have any. The organization is a sham.

The Petition Project first appeared in 1999 when an article was sent to engineers, biologists, computer scientists and geologists and a petition included with it. Low and behold they redistributed the article with a few minor changes but the same glaring psuedo-science. THe article is full of nonsensical arguements such as human breathing leads to increaed CO2, using as their dates BP (before present) which they conveniently define present to be 1950, they conveniently left out data - for instance rather than using a compilation of all sea data they just used the Sargasso Sea records. Unfortunately, the ignorant and wishful grab onto this psuedo-science as though it somehow rebuts the carefully prepared, peer-reviewed science that went into the IPCC reports.

This is the same method used to argue creation science - another ridiculous psuedo-science. If you want to

    What a joke.

Hey, I had my wife sign the petition. She has an BA in interior design. Yep, she's a real expert at climate science. Make it 31,001 scientists.

Your petition project is a joke.

I'm really interested in seeing the names of these 650 climatologists. Could you please substantiate your claim with a list of their names and affiliations?

If you can come up with even 100 names of active climate scientists I'll be impressed. People like John Coleman, TV weatherman and general goof, don't count. They should be people that actively do research in the field.

Apparently they are not the ones that needed to associate their research with dire consequences of global warming to get it funded by the billions given by government bureaucrats to buy such support. They have to take ridicule from religious leftists and their field stands to lose billions of dollars per year which is the vast majority of money spent for meteorologists.. It shows how outlandish some of the claims have become in the face of the actual evidence that they refused to go along with the lie.
