Yankees fans, opinions please...?

Okay, so I have a question for all the Yankees fans around here. Don't worry, it doesn't have anything to do with the money they've spent or the offseason aquiring they've done...

From what I've observed in this section, Yankees fans have various and differing opinions of Robinson Cano. Besides Jeter, he's my absolute favorite, but don't let that change your answer -

For all the real Yankees fans who like to talk baseball: what is your honest opinion of Cano? From his playing ability to his attitude to whatever you think of when you think of him...

He's one of the least talked about Yankees and I'm just curious to see what everyone thinks of him!

Thanks for answers in advance =]

Update:

If you think the Yankees suck, why bother answering....

Cano certainly has talent, but I think the problem that a lot of fans have with him is that he doesn't get his jersey dirty. By that I mean, he doesn't show you that he's giving it his all when he's out there on the field. I can think of one example when he didn't run out a groundball that he hit, and was benched the next game by Girardi.

I think people were willing to let that fact go in the past, because he was such a dominant force at the plate and could turn a pretty good double play. But when the hitting became an issue, people became much more critical of him.

From what I hear, he's been working hard with Kevin Long (the hitting coach) down in the Domincan League trying to totally revamp his swing. So hopefully with a new swing and a new attitude on the field, he can see the same success he saw early in his career.

I'm a die-hard Yanks fan, and Cano is one of my favorites too. I really believe he had a down season in 2008 and this is not going to be the norm, it is going to be the aberration. I think he will go back to his 2005-07 ways, seemingly getting on base every time he steps into the batter's box. He had a great September, and although he has not played up to his old standards in winter ball, I feel he will rebound to have a great 2009. I doubt we will see any more extreme laziness by him. I expect him to an all-star for years to come, and hopefully he's a Yankee for life. His trade value has drastically decreased, so I don't see a point in trading him. I feel that he, like Melky, deserves a second chance to prove this was a down season. (That said, I don't want Melky in the starting lineup). Yeah, he stunk this year, but look at half the rest of the lineup. Giambi got maybe 5 TRUE clutch hits all year, if that. A-Rod probably less. Not what you want from your best player and the guy protecting him. Some people were seemingly blaming the team's struggles solely on Robbie, and well, that's ridiculous.

EDIT: As others have already pointed out, he's

been working hard on his swing/adding power this offseason with Long, and he's trying to get back to his old form, so I'd say the effort is there.

I think the Yankees should keep him.

He needs to focus on baseball, just baseball.

Next, he needs to get some 1-on-1 with hitting coach Kevin Long.

Last, but not least, he needs to take this new year and new stadium as a fresh start. Then maybe, just maybe, will he go back to being the .340 hitter he was 2 years ago.

I'm not expecting him to hit like that. He'll probably hit eighth, so I'd be thrilled with .290. I'm a little concerned with his fielding, but he can work on it.

Bottom line, there aren't many second baseman as good as Cano in the MLB, and even though Orlando Hudson is one of them, he's asking too much for a second baseman in his thirties.

Cano has loads of talent and potential, and I'd hate to see the Yankees trade him.

Well, I like Cano too, so I may be a bit biased. I think last year was just a rough year and whatever, being a baseball player probably went to his head a little and what not, and as he got worse and worse, that went into his head too. Once he got his little kick in the pants when they benched him, he kind of woke up and stopped taking things for granted so much. He probably felt a little too comfortable in the big leagues and didn't try as hard as he should have, but I really think he will turn it around. From what I've been hearing about the personal trainer and everything, he is working hard to not let it happen again. I really like him and I think he's absolutely hysterical, and he's going to have off years, maybe not this off, but he can't be great all the time. As long as he's trying though, he's fine with me.

The thing is he is not a yankee-type hitter. He is not patient and swings at just about anything.

However if the Yankees could use that as an advantage. They could make him bat 3rd in front of A-rod. Since A-rod is behind him pitcher will want to pitch to cano so they dont have to see A-rod up. (a good example is what Manny did for Big Papi on the sox).

Think about what Cano does with pitches to hit. He getz doubles. So now just think about A-rod going up there everytime with Cano on second and Tex behind him?

But no one listens to djdeeznutz cuz they hate his name

    DONT TRADE CANO

I think yankees should keep cano, because he's young, talented, and has potential. Sure he needs a better attidude, but it's baseball, lots of people have bad attitudes.

P.S. By the way i think derek jeter is overated and gets paid too much.

Cano is a great talent he is just a lazy a$$ especially in the field. I would like to see him layout for a grounder at least once I mean the guys uniform never gets dirty. If I had a good opportunity to trade him i would but would not give him up for a bag of balls like many Yankee fans would. Maybe he could be included in a trade for Peavy and then we could sign Hudson

He's got that type of swing that could hit 20 to 25 homeruns and bat 330 every year in his prime. He is never going to have a high OPB due to him swining all the time, but the fact that he could win a few batting chamionships by the time his career is done is a big plus.

Streak hitter. I love him as soon as he can get rid of his go hot, go cold, deal he will be even more successful, he has a beautiful swing and dosen't strikeout much but could learn to walk more. His defense improves yearly - i can see him holding a gold glove soon. His speed is underrated, because he has speed but dosen't show it correctly. At his age I see alot of potential, especially as his clutch hitting is improving more and more, I want him in a yankees uniform for eternity - i believe i can also see him giving Pedroia a run for his money as best second baseman as soon as he calms down his free swinging style and gets a little more gritty in the field.
